upgrade waitlist query
So I had a roundtrip booked awhile back and I requested an upgrade online. Then I had to change the ticket so it was re-issued. I realized today that the flight is on Friday and I should check my upgrade status since I'm 1p and the 72 hours had passed. Low and behold the upgrade request didn't carry over through the ticketing change and I stupidly forgot to request it. So I put the request in this morning, about 70 hours before flight time (using 500 mile certificates) and now it says I'm waitlisted.
What does this mean exactly? Are there no more seats? Is it possible another sweep hasn't been done so I could get confirmed in the next couple of days? Thoughts? Thanks!

You may still get upgraded for a number of reasons. They often hold back a couple of seats for last minute revenue sales, and those could be released. No-shows. Missed connections. Etc, etc.
Just be sure to get yourself on the Departure Management (DM) List at the airport when you check-in. That does not automatically happen and carry forward from the Advance Waitlist you are currently on.
Good Luck!

They will tell you if the seats in first are all taken. Your chances are slim in that case since you are a 1P. Maybe even slim if you are 1K! Check the type of plane before you book. Your chances of an upgrade as a 1P are much much greater if the plane has a goodly number of first class seats. Flights to IAD from San Jose, CA have only 8 seats. Sometimes 1K's don't even make it what with all the Globals running around Silicon Valley.

Post your flight information on here and I'm sure some of the resident UA help will be happy to check on loads for you...to give you an idea.
