Problems getting 20% discount certificate
Hi everybody,
I have a question regarding a -%20 certificate, but I seem to have trouble getting much value out of it. For instance, when I look for a r/t from DEN to FRA, I only get a $69.90 discount on a $2,097.20 ticket.
See below for information:
Fare details for selected itinerary
Traveler Fare(s) Additional taxes & fees* Discount Fare subtotal(s)
Adult 1 USD 2,097.20 20 Percent Discount
USD 69.90 USD 2,167.10
Total price*: USD 2,167.10
Discount description
Total discount
20 Percent Discount
USD 74.88
Does anybody have any advice for me to get the most value out of it? Is anybody experiencing the same sort of problems?
Thank you in advance.

Is your cert good on international fares?
If it is and it's not calculating correctly, call tech support - 800-589-5582. They can generally apply the cert correctly assuming all terms are met.

I had to do the yesterday. UAL.com would not accept my 20% cert at all for a LAX-ICN-LAX ticket. The cert was clearly good for worldwide travel.
I called web support. The agent put me on hold and told me that my cert was good for every country except for South Korea.
Hmmm.
Her sup then stepped in and got me squared away!
I now am out of pocket $750 for a roundtrip upgrades ticket!

I had a very difficult time using a similar 20% off e-cert on an international itinerary. The only way I was ultimately able to use the percentage-off e-cert was to call the phone number listed for united.com support, get connected to a reservations agent in India, immediately ask to speak with a supervisor (I learned after my second futile attempt to book travel that only a supervisor was able to ticket using the e-cert), who, after many delays and times being placed on hold, was ultimately able to apply the e-cert. Unfortunately, UA has made it very difficult to use %-off e-certs on international itineraries.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Thank you very much for the input.
The certificate is certainly eligible for international travel. Since it seems to be usable onlyfor online booking, I never thought about calling the customer support. I appreciate the help.
If anybody cares to know how I got it: I was on UA 940 ORD - FRA in business (using SWU) and my TV didn't play movies. So I had the option of getting 10,000 miles, -20% on economy international ticket, or $250 domestic roundtrip voucher.
Considering I was flying east and wanted to just watch 1 movie, it actually wasn't a big deal to just sleep and not watch TV, but it was a welcomed United perk.
Thanks for the help!

If you're having problems applying it call and ask to speak with web support. Have your desired itinerary ready and they will put it together for you and apply the ecert.
