Using E-Cert + Using just 1 leg

I have an Goodwill Electronic Certificate $200 and would like to use it. Can you split the amount usually? Also, I am looking to fly from NYC to SFO. A flight to Carmel/ Monterey via SFO is cheaper than flying to SFO directly. So I was thinking about booking the flight to Carmel/ Monterey, and then simply not using the last leg and getting off in SFO. Would I still get miles for the NYC-SFO flight?

E-certs cannot generally be split. Once you use it all residual value is lost.

In terms of your plans, this will work fine for the NYC-SFO leg (just don't make a habit of it or they'll catch up with you eventually), but it will CANCEL the return leg. Skipping a leg is NEVER advisable unless it is the last one of your itin.

Thanks. I am only thinking about doing a 1 way anyway. So, I will get miles for JFK-SFO, even though I will not use my last leg?

Yes for JFK-SFO leg, but no for the SFO-MRY leg.

Some e-certs are valid only for round trips, one-way not permitted. Check the T&C of the cert and/or do a dummy booking to see if it works.

Not true. Many eCerts are valid for OW or RT travel, but not Multi-city, unless you use "search by price"
