Visa Switch

I've had a business MP visa for the past 3 years or so and am no longer getting that cards annual fee paid for, so I'm going to cancel and go with the one that gets me 3x on United purchases. I've read somewhere that they can deduct the signup miles if you cancel your card. Is that true? Also, I assume I still get the signup miles for the new card since it's past 6 months since I applied for one?

varies by card but usually 6 or 12 months is long enough to lock in the bonus and not be effected by cancelling -- 3 years should be more than enough

They will not withdraw the sign up bonus after having the card for 3 years.

So I've had my MP visa for at least 2 years. If I want to go for the 3x one, the proper sequence is to cancel my card, then re-apply for the new one correct?

I think my mom "switched" to the 3x card and didn't get the bonus miles because she told the Chase folks she was just switching.

Just trying to make sure I get as many miles as possible. Thanks!

I believe so. At least that's what I'm doing.
