Seat assignment on code share flights

Seat assignment on code share flights
I did not know where to post this one but I would try here since I made the reservation through UA.
I have booked SEA-NRT on UA, NRT-BKK on TG, and BKK-SEA on UA> in C class. We booked this TG flight as a NH code shared flight because otherwise the fare jumped up by $1,500.
UA could not get a seat assignment on this TG flight. I called TG. The agent told me that they could not help me because the reservation was made as a NH flight. So, I called NH. They said that they had to call TG and get a seat assignment for me. After holding for a minute or so, the NH agent came back on to tell me that I had to wait till I check in for this flight at the airport on the day of the flight.
All of you, travel experts, is there anything I could do to get an advanced seat assignment on this flight?
