We were on an 767-300 LAX-IAD redeye a few weeks ago, awaiting upgrade with e500s. Not cleared yet by checkin, but a few seats left, I think we would've cleared.

But we kept our Exit Row seats together in Y and withdrew the upgrade request. We had more legroom in Y and didn't have to hassle with waiting around the gate and then trying to trade seats onboard to sit together for what would have really amounted to less legroom and a cheese plate.

Didn't regret it one bit.

Pretty much sums it up for me. Even with a ton of miles to burn, not a domestic 763 red-eye.
