.... Wonder if it makes sense to increase the odds of 1K-dom by buying just 1k EQM for the time being?
Personnally would go for 2K and the bump up is likely automatic, seems the fudge factor has been 1K, so 1K+ a little shortfall might not make it.

It's going to be tight, trying to figure out the absolute minimum number of choice miles needed. Technically, it's 30,000 right now to buy 3,000 EQMs. But if they're going to comp me a few K miles towards 1K... it's just a question of how many, and when, and making sure I have enough time to buy the remaining prior to 12/31.

The DEQMs for my 12/08 flight will likely post on 12/11 or 12/12. Wonder if it makes sense to increase the odds of 1K-dom by buying just 1k EQM for the time being?

Ahh, I hate to see someone waste 10,000 choice miles on 1,000 EQM's... is there any way you can do a short mileage run for the difference? Seeing that you're in Redwood City, do a short SFO-SNA or SFO-LAX hop (you can easily find one for $100 r/t) Good luck ^

...and use 10,000 choice miles to pay for said $100 r/t. Come out 2,000 RDM ahead.

Ohmygosh, I'm already seeing six airports in one day and you guys want me to fly even more???!!! Nevertheless, I will look into it, making sure there's no quick hop I could to do LAS or LAX. But at some point, I'm willing to pay $$$ to avoid sitting in an airplane seat.

There, I said it. Brand me a heretic!

OK, so just for fun, given that load factors suck for UA tomorrow, I checked to see what could be done tomorrow afternoon. Nothing. Walk-up fares are still pretty darned high. Too bad. Maybe I just show up at the airport and ask where I can fly to & from cheap?

Is there anyone who has 98k+ EQM who has not gotten the bump up to 1K? I paged through the thread and the examples I've seen, people got the bump a couple of days later.

1K advanced at 85 miles short. DEQMs posted Thurs night, and woke up a 1K this morning, so it looks like they're doing the advances at least in the Saturday night sweep.

I am at 99,586 EQM as of Friday.

Woke up this morning, logged in, and noticed that I am 1K for the first time in my life. Actually, first time ever that I have been top-tier in any airline program (though I am close to Lifetime Platinum in AAdvantage).

Now I have to explore to understand all of the benefits of 1K.

I wonder when I'll cross the 1K line

When I start back from GRU en route to LAX on UA842 on a Friday night in early December, I'll have 89,303 EQM. By the time 842 gets to ORD for the plane change on Saturday morning, I will have earned 99,747 EQM but it's highly unlikely the miles from the GRU-ORD leg will have posted, let alone the DEQM. On Sunday afternoon, I'll be on a UA LAX-LAS flight, then back to LAX on Wednesday. The next couple of journeys are on CO and US, so no matter. Final flight of the year will be on UA MSY-DEN-LAX on Dec 31. I should end up with 112K EQM/52K UA BIS. This will be my first time as a 1K, although 2010 will see the 50th anniversary of my first UA flight.

I will hit 97K after outbound to SYD on Sunday, 12/13 (in Australia) or 12/12 (in US). My return is Friday, 12/18. I doubt that DEQM will be credited by the time that I return.

I could purchase 4K EQM for 40,000 RDMs right now to put me over 100K after my outbound, but before my return. Then, I could hope for quick deposit of SWUs to use on the return. Then again, business class loads appear nearly 100% on SYD-LAX, so maybe there wouldn't even be seats available! I did purchase W class just in case.

Incidently, I will finish the year with 121K EQMs if I do NOT purchase the extra 4K, so I might have to make that purchase simply to finish the year with 125K EQMs and get the extra SWUs.

What do you think I should do?

Just checked and I am now Premier Executive with only 49,505 EQM.

The next DEQM sweep will add 2,457.

My Premier card came yesterday.

I'm at 94,146 EQM now, and will fly LAX-JFK on Monday, and return on Friday, which will add 2,475 each leg, bringing me to 99,096 before the DEQM sweeps.

I'm curious to see which happens first, but either way I'm almost there ^

Beware
.... you can register to receive an early deposit of four of your six 2010 Systemwide Upgrades. .... you’ll receive your Systemwide Upgrades within four to six business days of qualifying. ...

Considering next year upgrading W fares will cost $450 + 20-30,000 miles that seems to be a good tradeoff

And one of the accounts I manage is at 48,70x points and still at 2P level. (not a concern, really, because the owner will earn another 500 EQM (pre-DEQM) in a few days).

OK, you win. It's not going to be a real mileage run, because I'm going to pretend to add some utility to it. Fly SFO-LAS with my daughter on Tuesday afternoon, see the Blue Man Group, spend $44 (all-in) for a room at Harrah's, and fly back the next morning in time for work (and her school). $99.40 all/in for each ticket. Not bad! ^

I may, or may not, end up 22 miles short of 100k. It all depends upon whether I am still getting EQMs for $$$ spent on UA.com on my Platinum card. If so, I'll be fine. If not, my last flight (the one that will, with DEQM, put me at 99,978) will be on December 8th. I should see the DEQMs post on the 12th, so there's lots of time to see if UA is going to comp me those extra 22 miles, or if I'll have to spend 10,000 choice points.
