You have to wonder how any business ever got done in the days before wifi, laptops and cellphones/smartphones :p

Could care less about wifi, especially if they extort huge sums of money to use it and definitely no cell phones in flight, nice to get away from all the chatter while flying.

They can take away my E+ when they pry it out of poor twisted cramped 6'1" legs. No way wifi comes even close to leg room for me.

Kind of like saying for your rental car do you want Navigation in your Toyota Yaris or nothing and get a Chrysler 300?

Ummmmm bigger seat please. However I'm sure your middle school/teens would love the wifi. They can IM till their fingers callous up.

I'm very close to WineCountryUA, though I would say more like
  1. seat
  2. seat
  3. seat
  4. seat
  5. seat
  6. seat
  7. seat
  8. carry-on baggage space
  9. frequent access to liquids
  10. (on intl/transcon) some access to food (free or purchased)
  11. IFE
  12. AC power
  13. wifi

dhauld Oct 6, 2009 2:36 pm

I can't even open up my laptop to use comfortably unless I am in E+.

And WiFi is totally overrated. Email prevents me from working as much as it helps me work. I don't update my Facebook ever, and I can get entertainment preloaded on my laptop.

I would take in seat power >>>>> wifi.

Not for me. I sleep very well on airplanes and appreciate catching the extra Z's whenever I can.

Interesting... it's pretty easy to tell who are the business travelers on this thread. Here's my list:
  1. Price
  2. Seat (negotiable with price, to some minor degree)
  3. IFE (which includes WiFi)
  4. Food

As a leisure traveler, price generally rules all. I'm willing to pay a little more to UA for E+, but not significantly more. UA's mid-to-late December SFO-JFK flights are $380+... DL and AS both have fares at around $300. I'm tempted to fly DL for the IFE/WiFi and the $80 savings. The $80 will go towards a decently nice meal in NY.

Not at all for me. Unless said wifi is accompanied by a power outlet (we know how great UA is on that one ) and is free, I'm not going to bother to pay for something I can get on the ground for free. I'm not yet that important.

Given OP's reference to VX, how would your answer change if power was available in all seats (both 120V and USB) and free WiFi were included?

I agree - no need for all the AV additions like TVs, on demand video, etc as long as I have my laptop.

I think in regards to what the OP was asking is WiFi more important than E+. IME, the E- seats have zero room for your laptop. E+ is much better for that. I still have a 15 in laptop, and even in E+ it is hard to get set up and work comfortably. Trying to do that in E- would be a nightmare. So for me, E+ is more important becuse I could not utilize WiFi in flight in E- at all.

I'm one of the different types though. I do not like to work on flights. I prefer to use flight time as quiet time to clear my head. I will watch a movie or listen to music, but that relaxes me. Work does not. So I'm fine without the internet for a few hours.

Short answer to the OP: no.

with laptop (and space to use it) , all work/entertainment needs can be met

I'd agree, though I'd swap 4/5.

Ahh you're right... so card stock BPs are higher than Wi-Fi for me as well.

All 256k EQM this year have been on my own dime, so I'm not sure what you mean by that. I still value E+ over Wi-Fi whether I am traveling for business or for fun. Even if there was Wi-Fi, business could still reasonably expect that I'm not connected for my flight.

Price
Seat
Scotch
Reading light
Friendly FAs I can chat with
Not having to sit more than 2 across in Y

(nice little curve that list makes)

VX is a bad example for me as I live in PHX. Let's say that F9 was giving away free wifi and power...the answer would still be less important to me than getting my exit row/E+

I can understand putting price #1... but as a mostly-leisure traveler (80% of my flights are my own dime) and with a company that stresses cheapest flights in their policy (travel agency now even searches WN *shudder*), it's also fair to say for many of us even as leisure travelers, E+ trumps price.

If it's significantly cheaper, sure, I will fly someone else... but my threshold for "significantly" will differ from others', obviously. :) I also try to stick with *A if I have to fly someone else, or will use miles for an award ticket if all else fails.

Most of my travel this year has been leisure travel. I would say that total overall value rules for me - with price being only one side of the equation.

I actually start most travel queries wide open in Orbitz - looking at offerings across all three alliances. I have done all of my 2009 travel on *A and have only really paid a premium to do so when I've bought up to the W fare for SWU purposes.

I have yet to find a situation where the cheapest Skyteam option is hundreds of dollars less than the cheapest *A option. Or even a narrower gap with Oneworld, where I might consider it due to lifetime AA Gold status.

Usually, I find similar prices across all of the big players, which means my decision ends up coming down to things like seats, EQM/RDM, routing, upgradability, etc.
