This europe and when the unions say two days, it is two days. Industrial actions in Europe are very different from the USA.

Italian strikes normally have to be posted in advance so go here and you can check what actions are planned:

Uh-oh! What's going on out there? Are they still on strikes? Or it is over now? I wasn't aware of that.

Big one is planned for 10 July nearly nationwide, especially in Milano (LIN and MXP) and Venezia (VCE) (Palermo PMO is not on the 10th but is striking on the 11th instead, we do long weekends here in Sicilia)....
This of course annoys me because I was flying a family member into Italy on the 10th via MXP but have moved the flight to FCO so fingers crossed.

By Italian law flights 6a-9a and 6p-9p are legally protected unlike on trains. They also will sometimes list other protected flights. Use the link I posted above for the strike announcements.

Summer is strike time here in Italia and Europe in general, and Italian unions are really pissed at increases in military spending and they want more spent on working shorter hours and education, so the rail strikes on the 14th-15th of July will be massive. One of the bigger ones recently.

Good afternoon - the family and I are starting a 2+ week journey through IT *departing* on 7/10, EWR-VCE. Is the likelihood of an action happening high? Not much experience w/ industrial actions in IT. Thanks!

The July 9/10 action listed above is as close to 100% certainly happening as you can get.

Since you are flying a US carrier that departs the US on the 10th and arrives VCE on the 11th (aka the day after the action) you should be fine for your flight.

Flights the government here in Italy guarantees will operate are always posted here: https://www.enac.gov.it/trasporto-ae...voli-garantiti

Oddly UA show Palermo for 9-10 but Palermo's airport strike is on the 11th not the 10th like the others though the next UA flight is on the 12th I believe.

Just a reminder as I have posted upthread the official government site where all strikes have to be announced:
https://scioperi.mit.gov.it/mit2/public/scioperi (sometimes they update for few affected hours and such, they cannot update to longer times at these close-in deadlines).

Flights coming in between 7am and 10am and then 6pm and 9pm must not be affected by the strikes normally, though still expected bag delays.

These are the current listed protected flights that will go even during the strike times not already protected by the set times as noted above:
Nord America
DAL 289 VENEZIA (LIPZ) NEW YORK (KJFK)
UAE 205 MALPENSA (LIMC) NEW YORK (KJFK)
ACA 895 MALPENSA (LIMC) MONTREAL (CYUL)
AMX 71 ROMA FIUMICINO (LIRF) CITT DEL MESSICO (MMMX)
ITY 650 ROMA FIUMICINO (LIRF) TORONTO (CYYZ)
AAL 299 MALPENSA (LIMC) FILADELFIA (KPHL)
TSC 403 FIUMICINO (LIRF) MONTRAL (CYUL)
UAL 169 VENEZIA (LIPZ) NEWARK (KEWR)
NOS 424 MALPENSA (LIMC) TORONTO (CYYZ)
WJA 033 FIUMICINO (LIRF) CALGARY (CYYC)
DJT 520 MALPENSA (LIMC) NEWARK (KEWR)

Another mass airport strike scheduled for July 26th. Changed my Italian trip to Vienna.

From Google AI...
  • July 26:
    .
A nationwide airline and airport strike from 1 pm to 5 pm, affecting airline and airport staff across Italy.
