UA 619 BRU-EWR Returns to BRU due to suspected fuel leak.

So we were almost past the UK when the pilot came on to tell us we were returning to BRU due to a suspected fuel leak..... currently sitting on the BRU tarmac. AMA.

Gl gl - ideally they ship you to FRA and get you to usa however possible. I imagine a very limited inventory of services / staff / airplanes for UA in BRU.

depending on your status and your final destination, check any route that exists eg bru-cdr-jfk (af) or bru-LHR-usa (aa / one world if not *A) that you can propose if UA hasnt already sent you your new itinerary. If needed then check ft UA thread for cancelled flight and related proactive actions to take.

Yeah, from an outstation, that was going to be difficult to recover.

What re-booking options did you get?

Surprised they didnt just land in LHR given the position of their U-turn.

A number of people on the flight might not have had transit visa exemptions and wouldn't have been allowed to transit at LHR without an airside transit visa

LHR doesn't allow non-emergency diversions.

This was one of the reasons the pilot gave for returning to BRU. My destination was/is CVG. Going tomorrow BRU-EDI-IAD-CVG. First suggestion would have gotten me there near midnight tomorrow, but this one arrives around 7pm, a day late.

First one was

The next available flight we can rebook you will be tomorrow and this is the flight:

27Sep LH1009 BRU-FRA 11:20 a.m. - 12:20 p.m.
27Sep UA47 FRA-IAH 1:55 p.m. - 5:50 p.m.
27Sep UA685 IAH-CVG 8:06 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.

Which was ironic, since I started in BER.

And don't forget to file a EC 261 claim after your trip is done. Regardless of UA compensation prior to that.

Ya, they put us up in the Holiday Inn. 17 voucher for food at airport. Everything according to EU regulations. Now we see if I actually make it to CVG today.
