just saw this... https://nypost.com/2024/03/01/us-new...gency-landing/
What exactly is a Level 3 threat? And what are various threat levels?

Levels of Threat

International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has defined a four tier threat level hierarchy. Although all National Aviation Authorities (NAA) do not follow these specific definitions, they provide valuable guidance to operators in determining the seriousness of an unruly passenger incident and in developing their policies on appropriate level of response. The ICAO level of threat specifics are as follows:
  • Level 1 — Disruptive behavior (verbal);
  • Level 2 — Physically abusive behavior;
  • Level 3 — Life-threatening behavior (or display of a weapon);
  • Level 4 — Attempted or actual breach of the flight crew compartment.

From the OP link:

"Per ATC comms via @liveatc, #UA883 diverted to Bangor to remove an unruly passenger. Will continue to Newark shortly."

and

"A Level 3 warning in an aircraft typically involves life-threatening behavior or display of a weapon."

Level 3 is what the news reports on for a great headline. In reality it's an unruly customer who likely got physical with the crew.

Serves me right for falling prey to a NY Post headline. Sounded like it could be anything up to a hi-jacking attempt.

At least according to post #2 that would be level 2, not 3.

Depends how physical it got, one punch could be "life-threatening" right?

If you aren't even sure of what qualifies as a Level 3 incident, why did you dismiss the story a few posts ago as tabloid exaggeration? We'll find out what happened soon enough.

Having seen how some UA FA's escalate things, I'm often skeptical when I see things like this now.

Why don't we just all wait for Simon an AV Herald to summarize the actual facts without click baity-ness or suppositions.

SImple Flying just published an article with the headline: "United Airlines Removes Boeing 737 MAX 10 From Expected Aircraft Deliveries" but when you read the actual article it says : "removed the Boeing 737 MAX 10 from its fleet plan from this year until after 2025."
