UA bonus RDM promo for Europe flights (LHR/AMS/CDG)

Via email titled “Earn 5x more miles on flights to Europe”

Earn up to 50,000 bonus miles on flights to Europe.

If you're looking for an excuse to escape to Europe this winter, you may have just found it.

Simply register for this promotion and book United Economy® flights to London (LHR), Amsterdam (AMS) or Paris (CDG), then receive bonus award miles equal to 5x your fare* — and that's on top of the award miles you already earn as a MileagePlus® member.

T&C:

The fare is the base fare of the ticket plus carrier-imposed surcharges, excluding any government-imposed taxes and surcharges. For tickets purchased in a currency other than U.S. dollars, we will convert the purchase to U.S. dollars using an industry standard exchange rate and then calculate the number of miles you will earn. Please note that the price displayed when purchasing a ticket on
united.comincludes up to a 7.5% U.S. Federal Transportation Tax on the base amount of the fare on itineraries wholly within the United States. This tax also applies to certain itineraries between the United States and Canada or Mexico. You will not earn PQP or award miles for the full amount of the displayed price for these itineraries because the U.S. Federal Transportation tax is not eligible to earn PQP or miles.

1. Registration is required by December 13, 2023.
2. Membership in the MileagePlus program is required prior to registration.
3. To earn the bonus, you must register for this offer prior to booking and completing a qualifying flight. A "qualifying flight":
I. Includes a segment to, from, or through either London Heathrow (LHR), Amsterdam (AMS), or Paris (CDG)
II. Complies with the tickets and travel dates listed below
III. Is operated by United or United Express (offer is not valid on United-marketed codeshare flights operated by other carriers) and
IV. Must be booked in paid Economy fare classes.
4. To qualify for this offer flights must be booked and completed after registration and no later than December 13, 2023.
5. Qualifying flight activity must be posted to the members' MileagePlus account in order to qualify for this offer.
6. For qualifying flights, bonus award amounts will be credited as follows:
I. 5 times the fare* will be awarded for qualifying flights between the United States and London Heathrow (LHR), Amsterdam (AMS), or Paris (CDG) when any flight segment between the U.S. and London Heathrow (LHR), Amsterdam (AMS), or Paris (CDG) is included on the itinerary. Connections are also eligible for bonus miles. Bonus does not apply to any upper cabin fare multiplier.

7. Registered members can earn a maximum of 50,000 bonus award miles in accordance with this promotion and these terms and conditions.
8. Tickets purchased in Basic Economy are not eligible for this promotion.
9. Offer is not valid on government fares.
10. Bonus award miles will be credited within six to eight weeks after the promotion ends on December 13, 2023. Bonus will be calculated using the originally ticketed fare and/or fare classes and Economy Plus purchases, as applicable, and subsequent changes to any fare and/or fare classes as a result of itinerary changes, complimentary or paid upgrade, purchase of travel products (including but not limited to United Club℠, Premier Access®, Award Accelerator®, Premier Accelerator℠), irregular operations or otherwise will not be considered.
11. Bonus award miles do not count toward United MileagePlus® Premier® status or Million Miler Status and do not apply to class-of-service bonus miles or Premier bonus miles. This offer does not include any bonus Premier qualifying points.
12. Offer is not combinable with other non-combinable offers.
13. Award travel tickets and other tickets that do not earn Premier qualifying credits are not included in this offer.
14. E-ticket purchase is required. Service charges for ticketing with a United representative in the 50 United States, District of Columbia and Canada are $25 by phone, $30 at a City Ticket Office and $35 in person at the airport. Ticketing charges may vary outside the U.S. and Canada and based on MileagePlus status level. The ticketing service charge does not apply to tickets purchased on united.com. Service charges are subject to change without notice.
15. Offer is subject to change without notice. Other restrictions may apply.

Miles accrued, awards, and benefits issued are subject to change and are subject to the rules of the United MileagePlus® program, including without limitation the Premier® program (the "MileagePlus Program"), which are expressly incorporated herein. Please allow 6-8 weeks after completed qualifying activity for miles to post to your account. United® may change the MileagePlus Program including, but not limited to, rules, regulations, travel awards and special offers or terminate the MileagePlus Program at any time and without notice. United and its subsidiaries, affiliates and agents are not responsible for any products or services of other participating companies and partners. Taxes and fees related to award travel are the responsibility of the member. Bonus award miles, award miles and any other miles earned through non-flight activity do not count toward qualification for Premier status unless expressly stated otherwise. The accumulation of mileage or Premier status or any other status does not entitle members to any vested rights with respect to the MileagePlus Program. All calculations made in connection with the MileagePlus Program, including without limitation with respect to the accumulation of mileage and the satisfaction of the qualification requirements for Premier status, will be made by United Airlines® and MileagePlus in their discretion and such calculations will be considered final. Looks like United is trying to battle specifically these 3 destinations which are also served by jetBlue.

Yep. B6 fares undercut UA and others.

LHR market is especially saturated given how many daily flights there are.

1. Only Economy? No PE or J ?
2. Is the ticket upgradable using PlusPoints? If you want a paid PE or J ticket, do you book in Y, then just take whatever the upgrade deal is? Or does that invalidate the offer ?
3. No ORC in the event of IRROPS.

Pretty clear in the T&C:

Must be booked in paid Economy fare classes.
If you upgrade using +P, the underlying fare would still be economy

Not sure what ORC has to do with the offer.

I was wondering if this was a signal of softness in European travel (beyond the normal early winter softness) but 'economy only' definitely seems like a Jetblue target. (Though I do realize Jetblue has Mint on these routes).

Perhaps it's a combo of softness specifically in economy bookings, as potentially evidenced by the headwinds Frontier and Spirit was seeing right now in the ULCC market (albeit they don't fly to Europe)

It won't work. You would have to register first, and then purchase the flight.

You would have to cancel and rebook.

Recpooc17 - as I suspected - it looks like the fare might have gone up a little (<50$) so it might be worth it

per T&C #3

I hate these hoops......

Is B6 that big of a competition, with their handful of A321s to Europe each day? And, would someone who is price conscious and thus shopping on a portal like Kayak even know about the promo and do the math to figure out if it tips the scale towards UA?

Moreover, they would not even care. Assuming a cost of roundtrip circa 600, we are taking about extra 3k miles - for people who do bot fly frequently, those miles will never materialize anyhow.

Well, I just canceled and rebooked my trip. Exact same itinerary. Returning through London cost me an extra. $0.10. We will see if it is worth it in part I did not realize how much of the ticket is the actual airfare that will give me points versus all of the international fees

historically, do changes requiring refare to otherwise eligible tickets booked pre registration count as “booked” on the change date?

On a multi-leg/multi-class journey, any thoughts on whether the inbound or outbound AMS/CDG/LHR leg has to be in Y (or both)? Will you earn the bonus only on the legs in Y? In a multi-city journey, would the whole ticket get the bonus? Does the 75000 cap apply to the bonus?

I have an upcoming IAD-FRA-LEJ-FRA-LHR-IAD journey, where IAD-LEJ is in J, LEJ-LHR is Y, and LHR-IAD is PZ. Ticket was changed from LEJ-MUC-LHR to LEJ-FRA-LHR after registering for this promo. I am not going to cancel and rebook given the confirmed PZ last leg. The current itin is going to earn 66k RDM, and the bonus would be nearly 40k RDM if the itin is eligible on all legs and the 75k cap doesn’t apply to the bonus, which would be significant. If LEJ-LHR is the only part eligible, the extra RDM would be ~600 and insignificant.
