UA pilot charged after hitting his breaking point at DEN employee parking lot

Mods: feel free to move if not in the right place. I thought UA frequent flyers might be interested in this story. The pilot will surely be a hero to some.

"A United Airlines pilot has been charged in a bizarre ax attack earlier this month in which he savaged a parking arm at a Denver International Airport employee parking lot, causing an estimated $700 in damage. Police say the pilot, Kenneth Henderson Jones, told them "He just hit his breaking point."

Is it common for people to drive around full sized axes in their car?

Why ax the parking lot attendant for help when you can handle it yourself.

I hope he doesn't have ax handy in the cockpit if he's stuck in a ground stop at EWR.

It was probably just easier to grab the arm and pull on it to break it. On the other hand, swinging the ax makes a statement.

Based in Denver, he may live in the forest. Many people in mountain and forest areas always have a shovel, a bucket, and an axe in their car in case they encounter wildfire in the woods. Everyone is expected to help.

Reminds me of the Greek legend about the Gordian knot. Though “DEN airport parking lot” is less exotic a setting than the one confronting ALexander the Great in the parable/legend…

I will reserve judgement until I know exactly how long he was stuck waiting there. If after a long flight he just wants to go home, and they are unreasonably detaining him for a long time, I may not have done it myself, but I can certainly understand why he did it.
