Expected completion is 2028.

Interesting blurb in the Reuters article...

United is acquiring two parcels, including one just outside Denver International Airport with access to its Flight Training Center.

Gonna be challenging moving Willis Tower to the greater Denver area...

David

p.s. Will also be interesting to see what they do with their current facilities that were developed/built and still used right next to old Stapleton.

United is investing heavily in the existing pilot training center (DENTK) with an expansion on the SW corner of the property currently under construction. This is the 3rd major expansion of TK in the last decade or so, which included a major renovation of the existing buildings, some of which date to the mid-60s. The area around the training center is now heavily developed and there isn't much room for further growth on that property, unless United builds on the parking lot. There appear to be a few empty parcels within a block or two of the existing campus, but that's about it.

It is possible, IMO, that United could start building out an auxiliary training center further away and eventually look to sell the land of current TK and consolidate at a new facility, but that would probably be many years off.

At the same time, United is buying more commercial real estate in the Chicago area, including Arlington Heights, where the Network Operations Center was permanently relocated after 2020. 2 weeks ago, United also closed on the purchase of a former Motorola facility adjacent to the existing NOC in Arlington Heights, so suffice to say, United is not looking to move out of Chicago in any significant way.

DEN used to be pretty rural, but sprawl is reaching it (people will complain about airport even though it was there first). Probably best to purchase in advance as opposed to being desperate for it later.

Seems like a smart, forward-thinking move given the aforementioned pace of metro Denver's growth.

I agree UA isn't moving out of Chicago anytime soon - regardless, smart from a business perspective to be vague commenting on the HQ future - not far fetched Colorado at some point tries to woo UA with tax incentives that UA uses to negotiate with Illinois.

Although the facility would only take up a small portion of the purchased land, United says in a statement that it will "evaluate additional opportunities in the future as the United Next plan unfolds."
Yeah - might be good for UA to have its own set of runways installed.

UA moving HQ from Chicago to Denver?

https://viewfromthewing.com/uniteds-...ove-to-denver/

United Airlines purchased 113 acres in Denver for $33 million. When news broke last month, a spokesperson offered that they would expand their pilot training facility (doesn’t take 100 acres for that) and then yadda yadda’d the rest of it saying they’d “evaluate additional opportunities in the future.”

I've been working in RE acquisitions for a space-intensive industry for the past 7 years. One of the things we say often is "you can't grow new adjacent land" so it often makes sense to overbuy to future-proof your investments. UA could be doing just that. The good news is the dirt tends to go up in value, and I'd assume other airlines may want it in the future if they don't end up needing it. Makes for a nice one time bump on the quarterly earnings.

Come on man, there is no way UAL corp will leave that safety and bucolic life of ORD’s pastoral loop for Colorado . Especially when they have all that Houston property .

While I can see the advantages of Colorado, here’s what I don’t get. UA moved its Network Operations from Elk Grove to the Willis Tower in 2009. They supposedly bought an old Motorola building in Arlington Heights last year for the purpose of moving their NOC there. Now they want to move it to Denver?

All these moves cost money, don’t they?

I seem to recall Kirby being an avid skier? Can still keep the NOC at Motorola and move out of Willis. Plus, there may be some substantial corporate tax savings in CO (don't know - just guessing)?

Exxon kept their corporate moving boxes handy over the years - Rockefeller Center NYC, to Irving, TX to Houston TX.

Denver Flight Training Center Expands

United Opens New H Building at Worlds Largest Flight Training Center

So proud to be a part of this growth at United. The new building is amazing and will be my new home starting next month.
