I've been alerted that a 2nd daily SFO-HKG-SFO has been re-added effective Aug 2-3, after UA decided in Feb to keep only once daily through late Oct.

Three factors that I can think of:

1. US-Guangdong demand remains very strong due to a short supply of US-China flights.

2. CX finally announced their HKGov-paid non-raffle zero-fare tickets. A total of 2,980 R/T tickets will be for sale, first-come-first-served, one-per-CX-member, beginning Wed 5/17 8 pm EDT. People holding off buying US-HK tickets will finally spend money after not "winning" free ones.

3. GSA City Pair FY24 bidding must be about now. For FY23 GSA HKG awards, AA won LAX/SFO/NYC and many more due to their nonstop flights (i.e. CX codeshares). CX already lost AA codes on JFK due to Russia overflight. Twice daily will help strengthen UA's bids a lot.

Aren't they dropping back SFO-ICN at about the same time? I know there are a bunch of people flying to ICN and traveling on to China on separate tickets.

SFO-ICN will go to 2x daily from 11x weekly at the moment, if I have all the numbers correct.

I'm sorry, don't recall where I heard it but I believe it was UA dropping ICN-SFO to 1X daily after summer maybe? I just checked one week at random in November and it seems to be back to the morning flight only.

The increase seems to be for the summer season only, so the 2nd daily flight ends at the end of October.
