united.com Phone Verification required
Presumably this is a newish thing? Is everyone getting this?
"Please verify your phone number, 'narvik'"
Not getting the SMS, so I keep x'ing out of it, which means it keeps nagging me about it.

I started getting this a few months ago. Not sure what is the benefit to verifying, so I x it out. I still get the important texts (boarding, upgrades, etc.).

I received this message two days ago, which had the last four digits of my phone number and asked me to confirm. I did, received a text message within 5 seconds, clicked the hotlink, and the website confirmed.

The process doesn't start with an SMS, but from the website. I got it a few days ago - on login to the website it will prompt you to verify your "primary" phone number, and gave me the option to select either my US or Australian mobile numbers (both of which are listed on my MP account). When you click the button to do it, then you get an SMS, which comes from the same number as all United SMS messages (26266).
The SMS contains a link, which you need to click on within "1 hour" at which point it will tell you it's verified (no need to login/etc on that session).
All worked fine for me, but does make me wonder why they are doing it - potentially for some future 2FA login process?

I logged in 4 times 2 days ago and each time was asked to do this. Each time I confirmed so I "would not have to do it again in the future". Text code definitely was sent from same United number that I get all my flight updates from.

I received this message this morning, which had the last four digits of my phone number as well those of another phone number which is that of a fellow traveler, allowed me to choose the primary, and asked me to confirm. I did, received a text message within 5 seconds, clicked the hotlink, and the website confirmed.

I don't visit united.com often, but I got it the last two times I did visit.
Thanks for saying I can x out.
Same here. Apparently "not have to do it again in the future" means something different to United than it does to me. (As I said, it's only been twice, but I like to take things at face value.)
Thanks again to fumje for the hint that I can just cancel if it happens again.

(Normally I hit it a few times a week, but lately I've been visiting at least once a day between a flurry of travel and stalking some seatmaps for upcoming INTL trips where I don't love where I am)
