Worst Gate in United System?

I had the joy of flying out of EWR's C97 (or C99) yesterday. Somehow the Escalators, Boarding Ramp+boarding station, pillars and chair setup, basically make the whole thing a disaster for everyone involved. I can't imagine if both C97 and C99 had flights at the same time.

Curious if any other gate setups across the system are similarly bad or worse?

Not a frequent SFO traveler, but when I came through on Friday F20/21/22 were boarding flights for IAD, PIT, and EWR pretty much simultanously, with EWR a 772, IAD a 752, and not sure on PIT. It was incredibly crowded with boarding lines weaving thorugh each others.

And I'd say the low C gates at IAD around 5:30-6:00pm when nearly every European flight departs in that window. Total chaos.

I'll nominate the UA "A" gates at IAH. No check in or bag claim so you've gotta change terminals to do either. And you're right next to the new Southwest IAH gates which seem to cause a ton of confusion.

How about the entire bunch of UAX A-gates at IAD?

Gate 114 at EWR can get a little rough...

Maybe not in the spirit of the question, but EWR gate 71 (X,Y,Z,etc) bus gates are worse than any of the jetbridge gates.

Is there any other bus gates in normal use at any United hubs?

Not the system-worst, but the semi-circular gate areas at the ends of ORD T1 B and C are at least annoying and overcrowded! Esp when LH 747-8 is boarding.

Agree that the EWR bus gates are the worst. The "pit" gates at the ends of the C-1/2 piers are awful too but at least you can time it right to descend the escalator as boarding begins. IAH B (both sides for different reasons) and IAD Low A are on the list too.

Funny - I saw the thread title, and was going to nominate C97.

So, yeah, you nailed it IMO. The only upside is that the C-1 United Club is under renovation, so once that reopens, I can use it to wait until C97 starts boarding, and still make it in plenty of time.

I won't quibble over the mid-field arrival / connections. :D

But I can't think of another airport bus gate in regular service at a United Hub, though I don't get West Coast very often.
Really hope once the new Terminal A opens, these go away.

This. It's an insane mess on a good day, but when there are WX delays it's worse.

I vote those. All the widebodies going to Europe and domestic leaving at the same time with only one tiny obstacle-strewn path through the huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The unpleasant, unfriendly low-ceiling trashy trailer look of the whole C/D concourses just adds to the war-torn escape from Kabul ambiance.
