The full suite of the former A gates at EWR. As one poster here poetically put it (I'd love to give credit where credit is due), the A pier was a daily re-enactment of the Fall of Saigon. Although I've not been to the reconstructed terminal (is it even done?) the old one will not be missed.
Other than those, I support the nomination of EWR C97/99, although the cluster at C136/7/8 and C125/6/7 can get ugly when there is more than one simultaneous widebody departure and announcements stomp on each other. Same for the gates at the end of the F pier at ORD. More and more, I keep thinking that this group is doing UA's internal research for them. Agree that it stinks if you are stuck out in General Population. The new Terminal A is not open yet. They pushed it back to early 2023. |

How about the entire bunch of UAX A-gates at IAD?

Any of the gates in the ORD "Banana" concourse. The concourse is always crowded, hot, and stuffy. You actually notice it when you cross the boundary layer of air between that concourse and the rest of the terminal.

While maybe not in the full spirit of this thread, but the crowding (especially due to the inexorable flight delays) at the gates in the old EWR North Terminal (used by People Express which became Continental which became United) was likely used as inspiration for the IAD "temporary" C/D Terminal.

higher number C gates at ORD are super crowded & tight, and one of the E gates at SFO is in an acute angle corner!

Agreed. Anything near a SWA gate isn't cohesive to the phrase "orderly fashion".
IAH is underrated for its overall difficulty with its never-ending construction everywhere "on campus" - including the parking garages. It used to be a fairly simple in and out for a major airport - but "progress" ended that about 6-7 years ago. Couple that with United's always-top-level fares and plummeted customer service (a long, long fall from its Continental days of being tops in the industry - or near it), and it ends up being better off using SWA and flying with the cattle out of HOU instead - at least you're saving a minimum of $250 -$350 to most markets when you factor in parking, baggage fees, etc. |
I vote MCO gate 44
The layout of the gate is confusing for most travelers who have no idea where the boarding lanes are and many folks just try and walk up to the gate thinking that is where the boarding in. The boarding lanes are hidden away in a corner and it is not aparrant that is where folks are supposed to wait. |

No votes for the awful UAX gates at the east end of concourse B in Denver? The walk through half built shacklike hallways with no heat to get to your plane?
|
EWR has many eligible options. The "pits" with C87/88 and C97/98 are quite entertaining when 2 aircraft are boarding together (upstairs isn't always better at these concourse ends). C 134/135/136/137 are worthy of a nomination when multiple boardings are occurring. With 4 gates in use I have seen no room for preboards in 135/136 so BG1 had to stand aside as preboards stepped through. With 3 flights boarding they sometimes set up a preboard corral. Before the construction of the UC gates C125/126/127/128 had scrums that were almost as bad and the ability to hear the dueling GAs was even more frustrating.

I nominate the B80-95 gates at DEN. Ceiling tiles are starting to fall out, carpet is repaired with duct tape, sections of the hold areas blocked with portable barriers for some reason. Don't get me started on the restrooms in the entire B concourse. Filthy, smelly and almost always out of paper towels.

I had the joy of flying out of EWR's C97 (or C99) yesterday. Somehow the Escalators, Boarding Ramp+boarding station, pillars and chair setup, basically make the whole thing a disaster for everyone involved. I can't imagine if both C97 and C99 had flights at the same time.
Curious if any other gate setups across the system are similarly bad or worse? |
