The entire EWR C concourse on Friday afternoon/evening.
At least we have the new UC at C123 to pass the time, although even it gets crowded and dirty (along with the Polaris lounge.) IAD is a total joy in comparison.... BTW, to those talking about bus gates...nothing I have seen in the UA system compares to the horrific bus gates at MIA and PHL |

I had the joy of flying out of EWR's C97 (or C99) yesterday. Somehow the Escalators, Boarding Ramp+boarding station, pillars and chair setup, basically make the whole thing a disaster for everyone involved. I can't imagine if both C97 and C99 had flights at the same time.
Curious if any other gate setups across the system are similarly bad or worse? I hate the fixed seating tables and the cramped hallways of C terminal to begin with, so these gates give me a low-rent nostalgic feel. Plus, during heavy travel dates it's cramped but less hectic than above. |
I generally do not like any non-hub that makes it impossible for pre-boarders. They usually have BG1 and BG2 stantions, but often block off or have no room for pre-boarders to stand. This leads to nasty looks from those in line, thinking we're trying to game the system. CHS is a good example of this (even though they have wonderful GA- possibly the nicest and most competent I've encountered).

...and it's not changed since 1962. Seriously, those mobile lounges at Dulles are 60 freakin' years old. You'd think they would come up with some improvements in that time.
Can’t imagine the cost of changing this system. |

Still on EWR and not technically a departure issue......there are the Terminal B international arrivals when you come in just after several fully loaded foreign flag carriers. Really makes you appreciate Global Entry, especially now that it's a quick retinal scan and out the door. But for everyone else and those with tight Terminal C connections, it's not fun.

My vote is F4. There's like 5 seats there. |
Any gate at IAD...any gate at FRA...any gate at PTY...any gate at PBI...and while I like the lounge being close, the DCA gates get a bit tight. Lol the list is endless.

Only international arrivals terminating travel at IAD take the shuttle to the IAB. Those with connections simply take the escalator down, unless you arrive on an evening flight.

The cost of maintaining the moonbuggies surely will go up. But if there's ever a new C/D concourse then MWAA could either build a secure train to the international arrivals building, or build an immigration facility in the C/D concourse, and let people get on the Aerotrain to the main terminal.

How would that work? People coming through customs and immigration without a connection can't be let onto the concourse with non-carry on bags.

Fun thread, some of my entries
1. IAD end of C (C1-C8) during the 5pm rush truly is awful 2. EWR basement gates 3. ORD end of C during busy times 4. SFO end of F when all the Hawaii flights are leaving 5. DEN in the middle of the B concourse is getting really bad these days with crowds. Can barely walk thru the central part of the concourse these days and have to take the moving walkways 6. FRA gates are definitely pretty dumpy 7. AMS gates were dumpy in my experience plus crappy lounge options |
The YYZ UA gates in the cold, sparse “shed” prior to renovation - complete with the winter walk to your E145 in 0F temps. Did it for two winters. The worst.
Agreed also that EWR A gates come close (but are saved by the UC). CDG UA gates were sufficiently awful this past summer too; rubbish AC lounge. |
