Elite benefits / earnings for UA metal vs partner

Dear all

I am traveling from iah to Tokyo next month. I was booked round trip on UA metal and UA paper.

UA just cancelled my direct flight (man that has been happening a lot lately on all sorts of routes).

There is still a direct UA paper option on Nippon metal.

It seems UA metal matters for something. But I cannot remember what.

Is it Global Services ? My 2M lifetime miles progress ?

Thanks for the reminder.

M

What route was that? They just cancelled my wife's EWR-HND route in September -- I moved her to NRT -- and you are right -- UA metal matters for GS / lifetime miles -- but IIRC if it is on 016 "paper" you still get credit for lifetime miles - so don't worry about getting an ANA flight instead -- you'll get better food!

No both are UA metal only

And certain elite privileges will different, boarding order, bag allowance (depending on cabin), meal preference, ....
on NH it is *G and not GS, 1K. Plat, Gold ....

Yet, things are still tight in Japan and there isn't sufficient demand to justify previous scheduled

Lifetime miles can only be earned on flown UA/UAX flights. Doesn't matter how they are plated.

it was iah-nrt on 9-12. The UA metal nonstop option no longer is there - has a stop in LAX.

I don’t understand “iirc if it is on 016”.

I think if I book the ANA nonstop I do not get GS credit nor does it add to lifetime. Better food but no credit. Is this correct ?

thanks again

ANA does not earn UA lifetime miles.

016 are UA issued tickets.

Unless you absolutely care about miles and status, go with ANA

Sorry - I confused BIS GS miles with lifetime miles / award miles...
