Depends on how much you paid. At $184 / (2454 + 2475) mi = $0.037 / mi.

I thought it would be cheaper than that if marketed as JFK-EWR despite going through SFO.

2454 and 2475 would be via LAX.

SFO would get 2566 and 2587

My last JFK-SFO-EWR (or EWR-SFO and back) trip under $200 was March 2022. Flew under $190 for 5K+ BIS in January and February. All non-basic economy (main cabin tickets).

Will the days of sub-$200 transcon return during shoulder season? Also, sub-3 cpm used to be easy to find; now, under 5 cpm might be considered as good value - less than $250 for a 5K BIS roundtrip.

Whoops. Forgot about the SFO part. $184 / (2566 + 2587) = $0.0357 / mi.

Serious doubt UA or others (except maybe a helicopter service) publishes an EWR<>JFK fare. The pricing would be the two separate one-ways with a fare break.

FWIW:

JFK-EWR (via both SFO and LAX): https://www.google.com/travel/flight...1dKLwSAQq5MFbA - $256 (base) + $52 (taxes & fees) = $308 (T & L fare classes); JFK-SFO-LAX are all 752s and LAX-EWR is 772

JFK-EWR (via SFO): https://www.google.com/travel/flight...ULr4XkVynHTUt7 - $262 (base) + $49 (taxes + fees) = $311 (N fare class (Basic)) or $333 (T fare class - no fare break)

It does have a fare break at SFO; it’s just broken into two different T fares.

Besides, the real gist of the bit is having it come up as a direct flight. Otherwise, you’re just looking at a round-trip, e.g., for a lifetime mileage run.
