UA - 75 years to Hawaii

UA's first Hawaii passenger flight May 1st, 1947 SFO-HNL. My first flight ever, 13 years later as 4 year-old LAX-HNL on UA. I still remember getting (a threat to personal safety) metal wings with pin to attach to shirt. I don't know if this will result in paywall to most...

Such fond memories of travel to HI over the years on UA.

Now we need Mai Tais back. At this point, even the Trader Vic's pre-mix will do...

One graphic is wrong in video - HA definitely didn't start flying between Hawaii and Mainland in 1929. 1966 might have been first Mainland flight. Between 1929 and 1966, I think HA was just inter-island.

Neighbor Island jet service began in 1966

Hawaiian did fly to the mainland in jets in 1960 - I'm not sure if they flew prop planes to the mainland before that.

I actually got to take a circle island flight in one of the original Sikorsky planes flown by the past CEO Mark Dunkerley

I tried to book to LIH and then OGG but the awards weren't coming out to 35K on the days that I was checking. Plus I don't have a place to stay any longer in LIH in 2022 so booked to BON instead for similar. First time to Bonaire so getting excited.

when I told my daughter that we were going to Bonaire she said can we go to Hawaii instead. Same one who didn't want to go to Hawaii back in November. Go figure.

UA’s installed a small display case with memorabilia just inside Diamond Head concourse. Disparity between old menu in back and current day offerings is stark.

In UC now. If I had brought some jasmine rice and chicken pieces from home, I could have made a fine meal from the vat of Thai chicken curry being served. Other offerings - smoked turkey on sweet Haw’n roll, caprese salad, fruit, Mac salad, pound cake, kettle chips, other munchies.

Watching steady stream of F passengers being denied entry. Quite a few more than in the morning when I’m usually here.

Well, for those on the East Coast, it was a loooong set of flights back in those days:

Oh, and you can return by ship...

United is Hawai’i and Hawai’i is United.
There’s no other way to arrive in the islands with the true Spirit of Aloha….now, for over 75 years!

Just saw the little display case in the terminal.

I think my first Hawai‘i mainland flight was on a DC-10 sometime in the 80’s and the FA’s wore the mu‘u mu‘u style uniforms. I remember they set-up a cocktail/beverage station that you could cruise back to anytime.

The male FA looks familiar. I might see him on a GUM-HNL flight a few years ago. 1K flyers were well taken care of in economy cabin.🤙
