Bonus PQP Promo for MP Chase Cardholders - Q2 2022 -- targeted & variable bonus
Just got a targeted offer on my Quest card advertised as "Earn up to 2,000 promotional PQP this quarter" however it is 250 PQP for every $6,000 in spend through 30June. My first reading of it was 2,000 PQP for $6k in spend which I would have been all over, unfortunately that was too good to be true and spending $48,000 to get 2,000 PQP is not worth it to me.
Would be surprised if many people actually take advantage of this especially considering (i) better mileage earning rates on other credit cards and (ii) if I really need PQPs UA will sell me them at a rate of 800 + 8000 award miles for $920, so if I was desperate for PQP I could earn 2,400 PQP for ~$2700 (which is about the mileage earning a Platinum, which I am not, would make on a $920 ticket, so even more earnings (PQP and award miles) than an actual mileage run.

There certainly are people out there who don't bat an eye at putting all their spend on a UA credit card though. My parents still have the UA Select card and each hit the maximum 3,000 PQP last year.

I did not receive the offer, but I went to the URL address and successfully registered my Chase United Club Visa card, at a rate of 250 PQP per $6K spend.

So. They are dipping their toe in the water of CC-spend based status.

I got this and it just annoyed me. It only qualifies for the PQP/PQF qualification not the PQP only qualification. I am already going to meet the PQP/PQF 1K qualification this year.
So 2023 will be a repeat of 2022 with lots of 1Ks who got 1K from other than flying which means less CPUs based on my experiences this year.
I will use my PlusPoints but have already made flight arrangements with non-Star Alliance/non UA where my flying spend makes a difference.
This tells me UA is going to go the way of the DL and AA where all spending on credit cards determines status. Sad downward trajectory for UA.

My Select and wife’s Explorer weren’t eligible.
Glad I put a bunch of UA spend on my CSR instead

Could this be a step in the direction of AA and Loyalty Points perhaps but it could just be another credit card promo similar to many in the past and not a complete capitulation
