So a lie and an attempted poach by #4?

Not certain. He probably knew his position on the list, but may have miscalculated and assumed he was next. I didn't speak up until I saw the confirmation in my BP (even thought I knew the GA made a mistake).

RDU-IAH-LAX 1K on L fare. There are two of us, and I *didn't* split the PNR.

RDU-IAH (E75): cleared 57 hours before flight
IAH-LAX (739): cleared 96 hours before flight

I'm now 1/5 this year on CPUs that involve EWR, and 3/3 this year on CPUs that don't involve EWR.

So is the CPU lesson learned is to not have anything to do with EWR?

Yes, and I endorse it. More CPUs for the ex-EWR group :D

My data points are too small to really generalize from. But that said, I'll do it anyway ;) and suggest that involving LAX and IAH is going to work out more often than involving EWR and SFO. It sure seems like a few more people in the NYC area are following the Want-First-Buy-First mindset lately. But of course, timing, day of week, etc play a big role too.

My 1K colleague flew IAD-EWR today. He was No. 6 on the upgrade standby list (App) with 1 seat available. He was upgraded before boarding finished, instead of anyone ahead of him on the list.
My question is how trustworthy the upgrade standby list was. I told my colleague that gate agent probably looked at another list.
Cheers!

I thought the lists are automatic these days. Good for your friend, maybe you did something for him that you’re not telling us :-)

I wish that I could hit a magic button😀😀
My colleague was just lucky. He is 2 out of 2 for EWR-ANC upgrades (lie flat bed on B757).

Booked 6 (+3 blocked F seats) of 10 seats in F

What gives? Three blocked seats for several
days on UA4571 Aug 30. Seatmap
shows four F seats still available.

Oversold economy seats by 3. United will not clear the upgrade list until departure time.

Oversold Y

Perhaps same takers for cash upgrades from crowded Y

Plus with no change fees and concerns about the Delta variant, almost for sure some late cancellations

Chance UA will clear to F2 at check-in or soon after

I'm Premier Platnium. Flew 8/28 DFW-DEN and 8/29 DEN-DFW. Cleared both flights, the former at T-24, the latter at T-72. Previous flights to and from Denver throughout the summer have been about the same experience. The only time I've not cleared recently was a completely full hub to hub flight in July from DEN-ORD. I was maybe 21st out of 75 elites on a 777-200.

Platinum Member, LAX-DEN cleared after check in at T 23:40

Half hour before check-in there was 10 out of 20 seats available. I was number 5 on the list of 14. Around check in they upgraded the first 3 and I was number 2. Cleared about a half hour later. Booked 18 out of 20 at T 22:00

Glad that you got the upgrade. The “early-riser” flight did not hurt (I spied you on the LAX UC thread 😀 ).
I am monitoring ORF-DEN flight late this week. United has not cleared any upgrade at 1K CPU window even though that flight has PZ space available. I would bet that nobody will clear before checking in. Hopefully, I am wrong on this bet.

Edit: The shorter segment, DEN-SLC, was cleared at 1K window, at T-95 h.
