Updated posting July 2020 - Ice, tea and coffee returns and some small food enhancements.
Safety updates to inflight dining
Your safety and the safety of our employees is our highest priority. To try and further limit potential exposure to coronavirus (COVID-19) on board, we’re temporarily adjusting our inflight service as of March 29 and will be moving to primarily pre-packaged foods and sealed beverages. Preorder meals and food for purchase will not be available. We’re also unable to offer special meals except for Kosher meals on flights to and from Tel Aviv.

Beverage changes for all flights
We will be offering sealed beverages on all flights. If you’re on a flight under 1 hour, you’ll receive beverages on request. We’ll also offer coffee and tea on domestic flights departing before 9:45 a.m. and on all international and premium transcontinental flights. Non-alcoholic beverages are complimentary, and alcoholic beverages are complimentary in premium cabins. Wine and beer are also complimentary in United Economy® on long-haul international flights.

Food changes for domestic flights
We won't have snacks available in United Economy for flights under 2 hours and 20 minutes or in United First® for flights under 1 hour. As always, you're welcome to bring snacks on board. For flights between 1 hour and 2 hours and 20 minutes in United First, you'll receive an "all-in-one" snack bag with a wrapped sanitizer wipe, 8.5-ounce bottled water and two snacks.

For flights 2 hours and 20 minutes or longer, you'll receive an "all-in-one" snack bag with a wrapped sanitizer wipe, 8.5-ounce bottled water and two snacks in United Economy. In the premium cabin, you'll be offered a snack box.

Food changes for premium transcontinental flights
If you're flying in United Economy or Economy Plus®, you'll receive an "all-in-one" snack bag with a wrapped sanitizer wipe, 8.5-ounce bottled water and two snacks. Customers in the premium cabin will receive their meal with their entrée choice covered and will be offered a packaged snack for pre-arrival.

Food changes for international flights
In United Economy®, you’ll receive an entrée, a snack and packaged dessert, as well as pre-packed mid-flight and pre-arrival items on select flights. Everything is served packaged or covered for you to unwrap.

In United Premium Plus® and United Polaris® business class, your entrée, dessert and bread will be served together. Everything is served packaged or covered for you to unwrap. You’ll receive a pre-packaged snack for midflight and a fresh packaged meal for pre-arrival on select flights.

What are the food options these days? And do they still provide "bedding" (e.g. pillow and blankets?)

Thanks!

Yes, the domestic United Club showers are all gone. Only the (closed) Polaris Lounges have them. Internationally, LHR, NRT and HKG UCs still have showers.

Slightly off topic - but amazed (or maybe not!) that the United website still references the showers at UC. Personally I'd be pretty annoyed if I upgraded on a PS red-eye flight with the expectation, per United's website, that there would be a shower available before an important meeting, only to show up and there wasn't

Under Arrive - it says this so having an expectation of a shower on arrival would be misplaced.

Visit an airport lounge to get ready for the day ahead

United Business customers are invited to visit the United Club℠ location available at their destination to freshen up, enjoy a light meal or snack, and prepare to hit the ground running. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available at all locations, and business services are available at most locations.

Good luck finding something halfway decent that’s actually open. Most airport concession areas are a ghost town and the things that are open are usually nasty fast food or grab and go 7-11 style salads/sandwiches. Tough to find a good airport restaurant at the moment.

I just flew in the past week through LAX - IAD - BTV - CLT - DWF. In all of those airports almost everything was open, so a very opposite experience of what's posted above.

CLT and DFW were to the point of being very crowded, IMO.

You consider LAX and IAD to have almost everything open? They have definitely reopened to an extent, but it is largely concessions such as Wendy's or Dunkin'. I can't speak to BTV/CLT/DFW, although my memory is that BTV has basically one vendor (Skinny Pancake).

Not surprised, these airports serve many nearby large cities

Unlike UA, AA is selling out flights at rock-bottom fares. Much higher load factors I've heard.

I was also through EWR last week (but not on a transcon) and saw that Wendy's was open. But I walked all three parts of the C terminal since I had a 1.5 hour connection last week and got a good feel for what was and wasn't open.

Actually the amenity kit had everything I wanted. Namely, eye shades and ear plugs. The rest is filler to me.

I could tell you that AA is trying to market that they currently have the most superior offerings in Domestic First ( not premium-transcontinental ) compared to other carriers. Similar thing applies to their clubs. I wouldn't be surprised if AA re-introduces hot full course meals on flights over 2200 miles until the end of this year.

Well. AA currently does have the best offerings in domestic F including premium transcontinental. The only exception here is Mint on B6 which obliterates AA on premium transcons.

Admirals Clubs are another story. I wasn’t impressed personally. Some soupy Mac and cheese and tortilla soup was all I got. Not really acceptable for me in a lounge on a transcon flagship F ticket. Should have had FFD.

I have flown JetBlue Mint yesterday and I was really satisfied from the service that they provided.
If I would like to relate JetBlue's Mint offering to United's Polaris offerings, I could tell you that United relies on their loyal passengers in New Jersey ( maybe some parts of New York ), Los Angeles and San Fransisco. United has a much stronger mileage program + credit card agreements and has much better status benefits from JetBlue so United might still have passengers at this time.

Still, it's better than United's Oreo's and crackers.
However, it's true that it's a huge downgrade to what was offered pre-COVID.

Passed through DFW earlier this month, and this was my observation as well. In fact, it didn't appear all that much different than pre-Covid in terms of the number of people in the terminals.

(There were fewer people in Terminal D however, presumably due to reduced volume of intl flights).

Also noticed the same thing at LAX T4 (AA). Crowded like before.

Yes, in the United terminal I went through - T7 in LAX I don't recall many places being closed. UC club was open too. In IAD I was in the A terminal for United. Went to the Finkin and Fox which was a full service sit down restaurant. They even allowed me to order and have a drink while I was in line. BTV has only one restaurant, and it was open. I flew American back and went to a sushi restaurant in CLT. DFW everything was open that I saw. PP lounge open too.

Flew three flights on Wednesday, 9/16, all up front:
UA235, IAH-DEN (737-900); snackbox offered, proactive drink service
UA500, DEN-ORD (777-200); snack box offered, proactive drink service; friendly flight attendants making the rounds
UA3582, ORD-TVC (ERJ-170); drinks upon request, no issue with a refill. Again, friendly service.

Flew one flight on Sunday, 9/20, up front:
UA1645, DEN-IAH (757-200); snack box and drink provided, refill upon request. Nice crew.

I get the feeling that the snack box is around for a while as it seems to streamline service and most passengers accept them. I really wish UA would bring back glassware...

Flights were crowded. DEN was packed on both days I visited; felt almost like pre-CV19 days.
