Updated posting July 2020 - Ice, tea and coffee returns and some small food enhancements.
Safety updates to inflight dining
Your safety and the safety of our employees is our highest priority. To try and further limit potential exposure to coronavirus (COVID-19) on board, we’re temporarily adjusting our inflight service as of March 29 and will be moving to primarily pre-packaged foods and sealed beverages. Preorder meals and food for purchase will not be available. We’re also unable to offer special meals except for Kosher meals on flights to and from Tel Aviv.

Beverage changes for all flights
We will be offering sealed beverages on all flights. If you’re on a flight under 1 hour, you’ll receive beverages on request. We’ll also offer coffee and tea on domestic flights departing before 9:45 a.m. and on all international and premium transcontinental flights. Non-alcoholic beverages are complimentary, and alcoholic beverages are complimentary in premium cabins. Wine and beer are also complimentary in United Economy® on long-haul international flights.

Food changes for domestic flights
We won't have snacks available in United Economy for flights under 2 hours and 20 minutes or in United First® for flights under 1 hour. As always, you're welcome to bring snacks on board. For flights between 1 hour and 2 hours and 20 minutes in United First, you'll receive an "all-in-one" snack bag with a wrapped sanitizer wipe, 8.5-ounce bottled water and two snacks.

For flights 2 hours and 20 minutes or longer, you'll receive an "all-in-one" snack bag with a wrapped sanitizer wipe, 8.5-ounce bottled water and two snacks in United Economy. In the premium cabin, you'll be offered a snack box.

Food changes for premium transcontinental flights
If you're flying in United Economy or Economy Plus®, you'll receive an "all-in-one" snack bag with a wrapped sanitizer wipe, 8.5-ounce bottled water and two snacks. Customers in the premium cabin will receive their meal with their entrée choice covered and will be offered a packaged snack for pre-arrival.

Food changes for international flights
In United Economy®, you’ll receive an entrée, a snack and packaged dessert, as well as pre-packed mid-flight and pre-arrival items on select flights. Everything is served packaged or covered for you to unwrap.

In United Premium Plus® and United Polaris® business class, your entrée, dessert and bread will be served together. Everything is served packaged or covered for you to unwrap. You’ll receive a pre-packaged snack for midflight and a fresh packaged meal for pre-arrival on select flights.

Fully plated breakfast with chorizo egg scramble, yogurt, and fresh fruit. My first plated domestic meal since the covid reductions. Definitely an improvement over the sandwiches.

And a split of bubbly (I spy)
Actually think that one’s pretty serviceable. Nice to see things are starting to normalize once again

I'm interested to learn their rationale for still pouring the drinks into plastic cups. To that end, I'm not really sure there ever was one.

Well this sure looks a little more "normal" - not getting too excited yet, but perhaps sporadically on the right track.

As to the plastic cups, how interesting for a company that once tested biofuel and guilts customers into to buying "carbon offset credits" for their flight, would voluntarily create so much single use plastic waste. I'm sure Harry the Humpback Whale will be as equally fond of this plastic cup as the rest of us when he bumps into it while swimming across the Pacific.

Seems that flight might be too short for the meal service? I know on an upcoming flight one routing both legs too short while the route I am now on, gets me into my final destination quicker, routes via ORD and over to the east coast. With the change my flight hits the 800mile min hub to hub so lunch shall be served. Saw pics of lunch and am not sure if lunch or the takeoff box ends up a better deal, other than the piece of pie.

Short of the criteria for the 15 June changes
On June 15, United will introduce a revamped menu of for-purchase snacks and brand-new premium cabin meal options on most flights over 1,500 miles and hub-to-hub flights over 800 miles or more than two hours

Thanks, missed the “hub to hub” piece.

Ask them to look in the Y carts as well, cant remember which flight but I was in Y and I was trying to see which red wine they had and saw a couple of the old fashions in there-Almost asked for it to see if they would give it to me (I assume not?) cause I wanted something other than wine or beer, but not a bourbon fan.

Had the same thing this morning (minus the yogurt) IAD-IAH. Although the FA had removed all of the covers already, so definitely felt closer to normal. I had no problem with the covers being removed before the meal was delivered to me.

Skywest. You are right there's a lot of variance but I haven't had issues getting drinks on IAD-RDU, DFW-IAH and other short routes on regionals in the last year and change hence the disappointment.

The “Pie in the Sky” cookie was surprisingly good! I’m going to be searching around for it now. The chicken with orzo pasta was a very welcome change for me from the usual snack box.

Up in the Air snack box and choice of two cold sandwiches…

I got a laugh out of the flight attendant presenting selection of one snack box and both sandwiches to each passenger… who promptly picked up each item before putting back and making their selection… then flight attendant walked back to galley each time to replace the item that the previous passenger had chosen. not the most efficient or covid sanitary process I could come up with!

drinks finally served about an hour into the flight.

Selection of either a Tapas or Takeoff Snackboxes, or a cold veggie-cream cheese sandwich.

Both passengers that got the cold sandwich returned it. lol Apparently, it’s not very good and the FA even suggested we give UA feedback about doing away with the sandwich on UX flights. Honestly, that seems a practical solution for a bad sandwich.

Unfortunately, UA didn’t load enough snack boxes for F so a couple passengers went without snacks.

Yesterday DEN-LAX lunch flight. Choices of basil chicken with orzo, or veggie enchilada. Had chicken, FA had removed wraps, No nuts, no bread roll
Today return LAX-DEN dinner flight, exact same choices, Had chicken, FA did not remove wraps, still no nuts or bread roll.
FA said she hasn’t see the nuts for a week. I guess Kirby completed Smisek’s war on nuts.
