I tend to read these announcements as some sort of inoculation by United and wonder what they’re planning to take away in the future. It doesn’t seem likely, but adding a GS person to the UC system could mean they’re toying with the idea of closing the dedicated Global Services lounges.

What dedicated GS lounges? The VIP sections at LHR & NRT? I don't think those were ever a prescribed benefit, just something nice they did.

For example, less social distancing in the club is one. UC pass won't be accepted due to overcrowding. Third, this benefit may be prematurely ending.
If my glass is half full, United limits the UC pass sale to make GS happy.

Please do not forget there are many of us who paid real money for lifetime club membership. UA took away our admissions to the lounge when not flying UA or *A. We do not seem to get any new benefit.
