Objectively, I think status is even more important given the number of connections OP is going to be making. Especially given that a lot of these are weekend turns where a no-status or very low status pax may be told "we can get you out in 36 hours" making the trip entirely in vain. I "chase" GS status not for the baggage tags but for the very real improvement in my quality of life when I get home versus not getting home.
