Is it established what the minimum connect time is in this case? I recently had a topic about a Haitian family friend who was booked with 1 hr. 10 at EWR, so it apparently was allowed, although some people here throught the MCT was 1:30.

The UA-UA International to Domestic connection time is indeed listed as 1:30, according to both KVS and Expert Flyer. I do not know why flights are sold with less, or if the MCT times had yet to update to reflect the MCT of the "new" United.

Also, be advised, as of today, all former UA mainline flights still operate out of Terminal A. These would be flight numbers from 100-999, operating EWR-a traditional UA HUB city. Flight numbers 1-99, 1000-1999 would operate out of C, 3000-4999 would be express flights out of A or C

Thanks for the Corrections KVS and SBM.
I have edited my original post to reflect these items. |
Connecting through EWR - bag question
Hi all,
Will be connecting through EWR on a YYZ - EWR - Europe flight next week. The YYZ-EWR flight is AC and will land in Terminal A and the flight to Europe (on UA) will be from terminal C. Can anyone advise if I have to pick up my bags in EWR and drop them off again at check in? Thanks, |
YYZ is a pre-clearance station so you will be arriving EWR as a domestic pax / domestic connection. Presuming that the routing is on one PNR, you will check your bag at YYZ through to Europe (AC will interline to UA). If you are on separate PNR's, it is still possible to interline, but you will need printouts of the xEWR segment showing the ticket # and PNR and additional time at check-in. You should call AC to make certain that they will do the separate PNR's for you.

Often1 is correct.
Regardless of how it works out, though, you will need to take the AirTrain to Terminal C (with or without your checked bag(s)) and then go through security again. |

I concur with the advice from sbm12. Reprocessing through TSA at Term C can be a zoo. Access to the Term C shuttle is across from the jewelry counter in the entrance/exit walkway of A1 -just prior to the "no reentry beyond this point" transition. If you reach that point, turn around. The shuttle access door will be right behind you.

The answers thus far are accurate. However, here is a link to some more threads on connecting at EWR. If you are doing the same in reverse for your return, you may find them to be useful:

Thank you for your quick responses. the flights are on the same PNR so it looks like it will be straightforward. Thanks for the heads up about the shuttle bus location!

Time needed for Customs/transfer at EWR
Is 1 hour 5 minutes to short to clear customs and transfer to the domestic United terminal at EWR (coming from NAS as a US citizen - if it matters)? United just made a big change in flight times (2 hour layover increased to 4+ hours) and I'm thinking of trying to take the earlier flight. I'm not generally comfortable with that short time period in customs, but maybe EWR is efficient.
|
From what I've seen here, anything less than 90min would be risky regardless of airline. 65min MIGHT be just this side of workable IF your originating flight is also UA AND both flights are gated at Terminal C. If you have to change terminals for any reason, you're out of luck. Even still, you're probably better off sticking with the longer layover and enjoying the UC at EWR.

Nassau is a pre-clearance location. You clear US-customs in Nassau.

Ok here's one, 69 min at IAH in the morning at 6:30 AM? Hoping early monring means less waiting at customs though unsure of terminals and if we need to go through security again. First time flying through IAH.

If you are connecting to another UA domestic flight - those flights can fly out of A/B/C/E. You can reclear security after you collect baggage and recheck your bags just after clearing customs. If your connecting flight is in E you can just walk to the gate. If it is the other terminals you can take the train that is air side. |
