How to Split Reservation?

Four of us are booked on the same reservation but I want to split it into two for better upgrade chances. I thought there was an easy way to do this online or on the app but can't seem to find it. Any advice? Thanks!

Start the change flight process and select the passengers you wish to have on a separate PNR, just go to the point of seeing the flight options and the PNR will have been split.

Thanks, tried a few times but didn't seem to work. Tried different combinations of passengers. Could it be because I've already applied RPUs to one segment?

I have this question too. We used to be able to do it online. No more? I couldn’t get it to work either.

Online Split Doesnt Work

As others have posted - used to be able to initiate dummy change for one pax on multi pax itinerary and system would assign new PNR. Tried to do so earlier today and went all the way to the payment screen without new PNR assigned. Canceled out and ascertained nothing changed. Had to call it in. Am I missing a trick, or did UA indeed eliminate this handy self-service functionality?

It was a bug that apparently some people found useful, but I'm sure more people got bitten by it big time. Sounds like it was fixed at least three years ago.
