I am wondering if they will treat PP as a Y fare that allows a person to sit in PP but in times of IRROPS puts a person back into a Y+\Y- seat. Isn’t that how discounted dom F fares work?

There was a period of time a couple of years ago where domestic F was being forced into Y by some agents even when F space was available. That seems to have stopped, and the specific attribute that seemed to be causing this -- the fact that the first letter of the filed fare was for an economy bucket -- doesn't apply to P+. So I don't anticipate any problems getting into an open P+ seat in the case of IRROPS, but if there's no P+ available, expect to have a choice between Y (and no refund) and waiting for P+.

Just picked up P+ to/from NRT in May for $1.6k and change. Seating map was wide open...17K PQM and a better chance for J upgrade, seemed like a no-brainer for ~$300 premium over the lowest (non J-upgradable) available Y fare.

I'm sorry, I've read quite a bit including the wiki and still have one question:
If I use a GPU and want to move from economy ONLY to business class (I do not give a hoot about premium plus and don't want to waste a GPU going there), it appears that upgrading to business is only an option if I can find an open upgradable business class seat. Otherwise, I have to wait list and can end up in Premium Plus and have thus wasted my GPU if the further upgrade to business class does not clear.
Do I have this correct?

Okay, so I can waitlist *ONLY* for business? I'm totally satisfied with that then. :-). Thanks!

Seems like the GPU page is fully updated to reflect Premium Plus. However, in the notes it states:
I read to that say that if you waitlist for both Premium Plus and Polaris, that if Polaris doesn't clear you'll get the GPU back even if upgraded to PP.
Could very well be an oversight by not updating that section of the page, though.
In most cases, the Global Premier Upgrade will be considered used if any segment of an itinerary is upgraded or flown. However, for travel which includes segments in United Polaris business class, the Global Premier Upgrade will be re-deposited if the United Polaris business class segment(s) could not be upgraded.
Could very well be an oversight by not updating that section of the page, though.
