The "close call" was a case of multiple urgent tech failures, including total ILS loss, aboard a nine-year-old AI 777 on approach to JFK in low-ceiling conditions, forcing the crew and ATC to seekr alternates with better weather as fuel dwindled. Aircraft ended up at EWR. Not bad airmanship but you have to wonder about the maintenance / inspection program at AI that led up to this situation.
