Is there anything I can do with a little bit of expiring miles?
I have just about 7000 miles set to expire soon. With no trips on the horizon, is there anything I can do with these? Transfer them elsewhere? Possible to book a 1-way trip for a weekend getaway with these few miles? Looks like the only thing I could buy with them on United site is magazines, which I don't care for.

United may have a credit card offer whereby you get so many free miles if you spend so much in so many months. Sometimes the first year is free. So you might get the credit card, the free miles after doing the spend and that will re-set the clock on expiration. However, not everyone will be planning to do the necessary spend and if credit is an issue, too many credit card apps can hurt your credit rating.
