UA mileage earning on AC (Air Canada) operated flights [ARCHIVE]

Good day, Flyers,

Mileage Plus has been denying mileage accrual on some Air Canada fare classes for a few years now. The PMUA Mileage Plus web site used to list which fare classes were eligible for mileage credit.

The new Mileage Plus web site contains only this information about AC credit:

"*Flights within Canada and between Canada and the continental U.S. (including Hawaii) for the listed purchased fare classes are not eligible for mileage accrual."

But nothing is listed! Any advice on where to turn for this critical info would be much appreciated. I could put the miles in my AC account, but would prefer to get them in Mileage Plus, if they will obtain credit. I've got an 'R' class fare if that helps.

They would be Tango fares on AC.com

R class should earn you the mileage on your originally booked fare class. AC's equivalent of NC class

A lot of the partner airline pages don't have fare class info yet, not just AC. Somebody dropped the ball. All this could have been ready on the pss.united.com site before it was promoted to production, since it did not need to be a real-time conversion day cutover. They are just static information pages and all the old or new contacts with partners should have been done long ago.

AC recently stealthily introduced Tango fares to Asia/Australia. These only earn 50% with Aeroplan. The upsell to full earning classes is in the hundreds of dollars.

Odds are United will follow with earnings on those fares.

I would not book AC TPAC until the earnings are settled.

With the new United I'm getting offered IAH->YYZ on Air Canada in V Fare Class, but the qualifying mileage is listed at 0%. Is this normal?

I think this suggests that 'V' class fares on AC won't earn mileage credit in Mileage Plus across North America (and perhaps trans-Pacific).

That has to be an error. Don't believe V has ever been a Tango type fare.

It's not only Tango fares that are ineligible for mileage on MP. There used to be a listing of all the ineligible classes on the old United web site, but these have disappeared since March 3.

So, an explicit listing of earnings for each fare class is back on united.com.

Here's my question. P fares are listed as earning 0 miles for "flights within Canada and between Canada and the continental U.S.", but 100% of flight miles for all other flights. So, what if you by a P fare, all in one ticket, as follows: US-Canada-Asia? Will only the Canada-Asia leg earn miles?

Miles with Air Canada

Hi,

I am about to book a trip SFO<->FRA in Y and noticed that the premier qualifying miles are ZERO for a leg operated by AC:

Award Miles/
Premier Qualifying*:
4,693 /0%
Total Award Miles:
5,711
Flight: UA8584
Operated by Air Canada.
Aircraft: Airbus A330-300
Fare Class: Economy (K)

However, according to Mileague Plus K-fares at AC should give you 100%:

Economy M, H, K, Q, U, V, W, S, T, L 100% 100%

Anyone knows, what is correct?

It depends on how the fare class get re-aligned back to AC.

As always - operating carrier, not marketing, determines how many you can earn.

Where's the segment? I'm assuming from the mileage that it's TATL... if so, you're right, it should be Premier Qualifying. If it's within Canada, it's probably a cheapy "Tango" class fare and won't qualify for miles.

It's the second leg of a United flight SFO->FRA (UA8584), operated by AC.

This is might be true, but MP says 100% for AC K-fare. UA booking engine says 0%.
This is inconsistent. What is true?

I called MP, have been on the phone for 1/2 hour but did not get an answer

Can you get the AC PNR code from UA, call AC and ask them what class it's booked in (or you can go to aircanada.com, click manage bookings, enter the PNR and see what class you're booked in on their side). Check that class against the AC list on ua.com to verify miles.

Possible! But I have not booked yet and certainly won't take this flight if it is not eligible for premier qualifying miles.
