Smile Remodeled EWR Terminal A United Club opened 12 Feb 2017

The remodeled UC in Terminal A at EWR opened today. It looks nice - same theme as the other new clubs. They eliminated the warren of cubbies in the back of the club to create more seating area. The bartenders are disappointed in the setup of the bar. I was just happy to find it back open in time for my delayed flight.

Great news! Hope someone can snap some pictures. If they did get rid of the cubes, would be a bit disappointed - those are nice for the road warriors and was quiet and private (unlike the cubicles in C3 UC).

Cubes gone

The cubicles are gone and replaced by two glassed in "phone rooms" in the from room of the club. I have photos but I do not know how to post them. Sorry for my technological ignorance.

Is the bar still perpendicular to the windows, along the front wall of the club?

Is this one of the clubs where they removed showers?

I don't think there were ever showers in this club. The showers are in C3.

There was a shower in the A club previously.

The shower icon is gone from the club listing on united.com, so it has probably been removed.

Yes, the showers were removed to add a family bathroom. The bar is still perpendicular to the windows. There is now a hallway from the bar seating area to the front room along the wall with the windows. The top photo is a picture of where the back seating area and cubicles were. The "phone rooms" are in the front room by the entrance.

EWR Terminal A UC Reopens Feb 13 2017

At the Lounge now. Big upgrade (minus the shower).

New seating, plenty of working outlets, well lit. Multiple coffee, soft drink machine choices. Food and bar similar to other UC's.

See photos below.

As expected, no hot entree service like ORD, no paid kiosk ordering either. I think it's now safe to say UA has abandoned that program.

IMV, I'd rather see United increase the membership fee and offer amenities more in line with what Delta does at Sky Clubs... better complimentary alcohol, better/more food, showers, etc. United also made some stealthy cutbacks in the January timeframe, going to one kind of nut/trail mix and eliminating the choice of two soups.

Otherwise, the lounge looks great and is a nice improvement over the predecessor space (which wasn't all that bad to begin with).
