I have bought tickets for family.
MCO-EWR RT in coach and then EWR-TLV RT in business. both in UA, of course.
It was so much cheaper than business/first the whole trip that it was worth the hassle.
UA had no problem. checked luggage through and when there was a delay in the MCO-EWR, they protected the passenger on a later flight which left earlier than the original flight without even asking.
One of those days when UA works great.

Well, it's the potential delay I am always worrying about. With two separate tickets it could be
a problem. Whenever we route via SFO it's always a nail biter. Glad it worked out for you.

As always it is down to how much money it will cost of how much money you will save.
If you give yourself 3-4 hours in B stop AND if there are several flights a day from A to B and if there are any later flights from B to C then it is less of an issue.
The fact that the first two legs are in UA makes life much easier.

Thanks for the good info. I found a workable solution leaving from a neighboring airport but returning to my home airport. Wasn't as cheap as the OW + J fare solution but it's all on one itinerary with a better beginning flight option.

I suspect the fare is only available from B and that the price climbs considerably if booked from A.

I see this all the time ex-SFO, where SFO-LAX-XXX can be thousands more than LAX-XXX.

The OP wants to buy A-B as well. Seems more likely to me that the issue would be that A-B doesn't allow end-on-end to get the cheaper combined price. But without airport details and prices from the OP we'll never know for sure.

Right. But it's a reasonable assumption that the reason TomMM was asking in the first place is that a through-ticket from A=>D prices considerably higher than A + B=>D. I think almost without exception the discount international J fares price as through-fares rather than end-on-end for exactly this reason.

Not to harp on semantics, but what I posted was not incorrect. The OW policy is not to interline on separate tickets, though individual carriers may choose to do so at their will. I think it is better to advise people that there is a chance that they will, rather than a chance that they won't.

It seems that this is not relevant to the OP since this is all *A (my misread that OW=OneWorld rather than One Way)
