How as a Plat will you have 8 RPUs, are you getting help from some other elite. Or will you earning higher status? Plat can only earn 2 RPUs annually.

correct me if I'm wrong, platinum earns 2 GPUs every 30 segments. I fly every week.

You will only earn RPUs for 2017 after you cross the 90 PQS threshold, or 75,000 miles. THEN you earn 2 for every additional 30 segments but after 120 PQS you would make 1K assuming you meet the PDQ requirement.

wonderful, thank you for the clarification. Guess I'm really SOL. Perhaps they'll offer a low cost upgrade when I can check in.

Sure it does; just switch to full version.

OP - I think the challenge you're going to have here is that you're traveling to a vacation destination over a holiday. With the difference between J and Y being reasonable, many will snap that up. The other challenge is not splitting your reservation because the likelihood of six R seats becoming available at the same time, which is required for you to clear, is minimal.

Just remember that if you split the PNR and there are IRROPS it can become a pain really fast. When I'm flying with family that are not travel savvy I generally don't split.

I may be mistaken, but I think Plats can earn more then 2 RPUs if they fail (like me) to make the PQD spend for 1K.

They can't. Additional RPU only if they qualify for 1K.

I'd book myself & wife in business, and kids and in-laws in economy and say it is their special bonding time....especially if it's a 3-4-3 configuration.

Well, more realistically I'd probably book the two business seats for in-laws and wife & kids & I in economy. I'm sure in-laws will appreciate that.
