Something weird with SFO/TPAC ops yesterday (and somehow there are seven (7) different delay codes in this list

)

1/9 UA9 SFO-CTU 788 delayed 1h30min due to aircraft preparation
1/9 UA857 SFO-PVG 789 delayed 1h45min due to weather conditions and air traffic control impacting our flight operations
1/9 UA869 SFO-HKG 744 delayed 2h due to catering difficulties
1/9 UA888 SFO-PEK 744 delayed 1h30min due to aircraft maintenance

1/9 UA803 IAD-NRT 772 delayed 2h due to operational difficulties
1/10 UA902 NRT-HNL 772 delayed 2h due to late arrival of inbound aircraft

yeah suspected as much, just amused at how only 857 was coded as WX (and ATC as well) and every other TPAC in that list ended up with a different code.

Weather was light yesterday, so that's not much of an excuse.

Though when it rains hard SFO has difficulties loading bags and catering the aircraft. Maybe we should import MSP ground staff

Its totally hit or miss whether they send those. When I have gotten them, they've arrived by the time I'm at baggage claim.

UA seems to be down an sCO 772 as well:

1/10 UA86 EWR-PVG 772 delayed 6 hours due to aircraft maintenance/late inbound
1/11 UA87 PVG-EWR 772 delayed 5 hours due to late inbound aircraft arrival

UA86 on 1/10 was originally scheduled for N78005 (which operated the IAH-NRT on 1/8 that diverted to DEN, on 1/9 they tried to ferry it to EWR but only made it as far as ORD and it now seems to be still stuck there), so had to wait for N37018 to get in as UA180 from HKG.

1/12 UA2 SIN-SFO delayed departure 3.5 hours "Delayed due to operational difficulties"

inbound (UA1) is going to arrive 30 minutes early. no idea why it's delayed.

1/10 UA 871 SFO-TPE 744 Cancelled due to MX, flew extra sector UA 2105 1/11.
1/12 UA 872 TPE-SFO estimated 4hr delay due to late inbound.

I was on UA1, we got struck by lightning shortly after takeoff. On landing we had to park out at a stand, where they're gonna give the ship a thorough inspection.

Very interesting - so they were confident enough to continue the 15 hour flight right after takeoff. Was there any unusual maneuvering or "testing" that you noticed during the climb?

Nope. Captain got on the horn, said it looked as if the diffusion mechanism had worked well, all systems looked good, and that we could continue with confidence. My ice cream was melted though

Think we were around 10,000ft when zapped

1/10 UA 871 SFO-TPE (N118UA) cancelled due to aircraft maintenance.

They sent an extra sector out on 1/11.

1/11 UA 2105 SFO-TPE (N120UA) departed at 836 and estimated to arrive at 1339.

1/12 UA 872 TPE-SFO (N120UA) estimated to depart at 1530, 3 hours 55 minutes late and estimated to arrive at 0950, 3 hours 30 minutes late due to late inbound.
