Rumor: UA possibly removing hot food service at domestic UCs {UA:no plans for change}

Heard this today from a friend seemingly in the know... apparently the hot food service at the renovated ORD UC locations was a trial balloon, and demand was so out of control (3x+ budget) that hot kitchens have been scrubbed from plans for the renovated EWR clubs, despite PANYNJ approval for same, and all other domestic renovations going forward. Also hearing a target of President's Week for reopening of the A club at EWR, at which point the C-1 club will close for renovation.

Unclear if this will impact the food-for-sale service, and as always, take any such rumors with a grain of salt. However, if the voracious uptake at ORD is any indication, I would not be surprised if UA undershot demand forecasts.

Not suprising. I suspect that the $ will be siphoned to sustain the Polaris lounge project.

Data on ORD C16 UC - Was connecting through ORD yesterday and saw a young lady coming out of the closed UC at C16. Asked her when she thought it would be open and she said roughly another 2 months.

Matches what I have seen in person. People piling on the hot food so much it was slipping off the plate
As if they had not eaten for a week.

Not unexpected behavior given the prior reports of folks filling up baggies with the snacks.

It is hard to expect nice touches when some folks go so over the top.

The demand for a decent product is so high, United must eliminate it. Not at all "customer - friendly!"

I wish they would increase the membership cost or crack down on passes instead.

What was the hot food service? Is there a thread about it?

I have seen a 6-cheese lasagna in the evenings, and a vegetable frittata with pork sausages in the morning. I found all items to be quite tasty.

How disappointing. It's a real shame that UA tried something positive and will take it away because people abuse it. Talk about the few bad ones spoiling it for the rest of us.

ORD B6 had (3-cheese?) lasagne entree during the day. I also saw bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs for breakfast on 2016-11-04. It was nice while it lasted. Hoping rumor is false.

Yep, this is why we can't have nice things. Savages ruining it for the rest of us.

My wife and I really enjoyed the lasagna at ORD. Shame that it won't be making it anywhere else if true.

This means that other heated items (namely the soups) would still stay? If so, it won't make a huge difference in my current experience, given EWR is my home base.

UA has denied it -- have been in touch with press office. I'll have a post up soon.

Dodged a bullet...for now at least.
