IAH Gate E8 - Missing Plane?

My husband is at IAH waiting to board 1091 to Miami. There is no plane at the gate and the only info offered is "awaiting inbound plane." Well, according to flight tracker, the inbound was 1019 (yes, that is correct) and it arrived at E8 from CUN at 6:24 pm. My husband was at the gate by 6:40, and there was no plane. Also, the United website says this is not a valid flight. No one at United knows anything. What the heck is up?

Look at things this way - it's better to be stuck at a gate awaiting a missing plane than to have been stuck on the plane that went missing.

That's not unusual during IRROPS. Next thing you know, a crew will also appear, possibly also without explanation.

I don't know IAH well -- do flights from international destinations have to discharge at a customs/immigration-compatible gate, then be towed/taxied empty to the gate for its next outbound? That's how it works at ORD, for example.

At IAH they do, but the CBP int'l arrival gates are basically all of terminal E and D.

It could have been a lot of things such as MX or aircraft swap related to MX.

Are you sure the inbound was for the same day? It's possible the aircraft went to the hangar for a day or so and the recorded 'incoming' flight number was fr yesterday (or before). UA does MX at IAH...
