... no way! that is excellent news. although still odd they would have those flights but no SJC/LAX.

wow, way to go united. makes me very happy as a SJC flyer. i honestly thought they were going to abandon the airport all together. i wonder what has changed in their calculus. they've cut and cut and cut for the past 10 years.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add back LAX flights.

True enough. The last time I flew UA to SJC it was on a YVR-PDX-LAX-SJC routing. I was just hoping not to overfly and double back, in future.

Surprise surprise, SJC-EWR on UA scheduled to start 3 days prior to Alaska's planned launch date for SJC-EWR

I visit relatives in Woodside/PV, which is actually a little closer to SFO. But SJC is 100X preferred:

* Vastly fewer weather delays
* Rental cars cost half as much. (SFO adds a facility fee that often costs more than the car itself!)
* In and out of the airport in half the time
* Fly to Hawaii on friendly Hawaiian Air!

AS has been growing SJC into a small focus city. They now have more destinations ex-SJC than Southwest.

Maybe the addition of SJC-EWR got SJC back on UA's radar, and they decided to do something about it.

The old CO flight times for that route were actually better IMO -- SJC-EWR redeye and EWR-SJC a bit later. Though these flight times might make them better positioned for Europe connections (though the EWR-SJC is a bit on the early side).

UA should theoretically have better economics on this one than AS, as AS does not have connecting flow on either end. UA has it at EWR.

This is an exact match to AS's flight times:

AS0786 SJC EWR 0630A 0255P
AS0783 EWR SJC 0405P 0740P

I also prefer the much quicker in-out airport time at sjc, whenever I can find flights vs. SFO. I remember fondly the sjc-iad nonstops 10+ years ago. I thank Alaska and other carriers' effort in sjc to compel UA to competitively respond with more sjc routes.
