Why did United pull this flight from the timetable?

I live in Kansas City, but commute regularly to NYC for work. United has four daily direct flights into EWR, with the first leaving at around 6:00 a.m., which allows me to get to midtown by around noon eastern. This flight is never completely full, but I don't recall ever seeing more than three or four empty seats (it's on an RJ145).

As I was planning some bookings for January, I noticed that, starting in the middle of January, this early-morning flight is no longer offered. This isn't meant to be a rant about how they suck and now I have to fly Delta into LGA. I'm looking for suggestions on where I could have seen this change earlier, and whether or not there is a way to know whether this flight is coming back any time soon.

Their online timetable only shows four weeks, and it doesn't currently extend far enough for me to see the flights disappearing.

Any suggestions (or information) is appreciated.

UA Express flights come and go all the the time. Particularly in the winter months. Also, UA Express is doing major reshuffling as E145s go away and E175s come in. I don't think anything out of the ordinary is going on in this case.

Is anyone aware of a way to see the timetable beyond January 6 besides punching in each date in their automated version?

Also, would this change have been announced or published anywhere? I know changes happen all the time, and this one isn't really of any consequence (except to me), but if there is something I can start following to stay on top of these changes, it helps me plan longer-term.

Again, thanks for any help.

I looked at random date in late January and perhaps the EWR-MCI RJ145 that arrives the night before is the one that will replace the early mainline MCI-ORD that I see today (instead of returning to EWR). That would be a double-blow to MCI's early morning UA options.

United is cutting 2/3 of the IAD-SEA-IAD flights in Jan and Feb as well. Many data points suggest that this will not be a flyer friendly winter...

This prompted me to take a look further out on their electronic timetable. It looks like the early morning flight is being added back in on February 16th (7:45 a.m. on an RJ145, which is better than nothing), and then on March 9th, it moves to 6:22 a.m. (still on an RJ145).

That is the type of information I was looking for. Is this something publicly (and easily) available? Can you point me at where this comes from?

The December 2014 - February 2015 thinning of the MCI-EWR schedule was made some time in July 2014. The thinning was extended to March and April 2015 in November 2014.

Scheduled UA(X) flights MCI-EWR by month. The months across the top are the month the schedule was published in 2014 (on the first of the month), the months down the left side are the month the flights are scheduled to operate. The numbers in each cell are the number of scheduled flights for the month.

Code:
   month | jul | aug | sep | oct | nov | dec
------------+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----
 2014-12-01 | 147 | 141 | 130 | 114 | 112 | 112
 2015-01-01 | 137 | 137 | 97 | 94 | 89 | 90
 2015-02-01 | 124 | 124 | 92 | 80 | 73 | 73
 2015-03-01 | 142 | 142 | 138 | 135 | 134 | 84
 2015-04-01 | 138 | 138 | 135 | 135 | 135 | 82
 2015-05-01 | 140 | 140 | 139 | 135 | 135 | 127
 2015-06-01 | 138 | 138 | 138 | 146 | 146 | 146
Looking specifically at flights departing before 7am, those cuts were made to January and February 2015 in July 2014, and further cuts to the February 2015 schedule were made in November 2014:

Code:
   month | jul | aug | sep | oct | nov | dec
------------+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----
 2014-12-01 | 29 | 27 | 27 | 26 | 25 | 25
 2015-01-01 | 23 | 23 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 5
 2015-02-01 | 20 | 20 | 12 | 12 | 12 | 0
 2015-03-01 | 26 | 26 | 26 | 26 | 26 | 23
 2015-04-01 | 26 | 26 | 26 | 26 | 26 | 26
 2015-05-01 | 26 | 26 | 26 | 22 | 22 | 22
 2015-06-01 | 26 | 26 | 26 | 30 | 30 | 30

I'm not aware of anywhere it's publicly/easily available. You can buy it from Innovata or OAG.

I'd like to make a free web interface to it, but it seems too prone to abuse ([semi-]automated scraping). The work has all been done, but we only offer it internally at FlightAware.

I appreciate what you've shared. It tells much more of a story than I would have thought existed.

Thanks

Similar longer term schedule data is also available from EF or KVS for a monthly fee.

In EF you have to specify a date (or week), no way to see the grouped schedules to spot terminations/resumptions.

UA Timetable

Hello!

When does UA publish their timetables? Online, the one I can download is good through July 4th. I was hoping to look through the latter part of July, but I guess that isn't possible? Thanks!

Although timetables are not published in advance, schedules found online through search on united.com and through GDSs are generally accurate - at least for a couple months. To follow breaking news of significant schedule changes, monitor airlineroute.net
