There are two versions of this configuration. They have the same number of seats in each cabin, however the rear lavatory configuration is different.
United's website now refers to these configurations as Version 3 and Version 4.
Version 3: United Domestic 777 "High Density" Configuration ("Version 3")
Version 4: United Domestic 777 "High Density" Configuration ("Version 4")

Ok looks like the most private lie flats will be 4AB/4KL. In the current HI Config, 5AB/5HJ are slightly forward of the 2L/2R galley and as long as the FA's close the curtain during breaks it is quiet. I think I might be able to adjust to this, but OUCH, the main cabin! I'm not sure us Pacific Islanders will be able to immediately adapt to 3-4-3. OUCH! Thank you for sharing. With the first of these configs due out in May, time will tell how good or bad the new configuration is. I was considering rerouting through HNL for my GUM-CONUS travels, but I'll just stick to flying via NRT for that.

Assuming this is the configuration, UA is simply reusing the 2-4-2 business seats rather than ordering new seats. Definitely a cost saving measure.

Interesting to note that 1AB seems to be rear facing to 2AB. Not clear if there will be a partition between row 1 and 2.

In fact, had three swaps in four days one time on KIX-SFO (which in itself was a swap from my PVG-SFO nonstop on 747 IIRC ).
But methinks with this large a difference in configuration there will be minimal swapping @:-)

It looks like ORD-SFO has 2 domestic 777 runs a day un June and some days have 3. Currently, they have the old seat map.
I've been on the 747 ORD-SFO a few times the last week, again on Monday, and they are packingin the crowds.
End of the day, if they can drop 2 739's a day from this route and replace with this config, I'll be happy. Yes 3 x 4 x 3 is bad but its the same width as a 739. And having the sUA C seats is not a bad thing. Better than what we have now.

I just can't see this game of last-second seat assignments (if any seat assignment at all) as having any positive aspects to it, yet that's the way things are heading. Wouldn't you want to encourage a more-orderly seating process, and reduce as much as possible the issue of families being scattered around the cabin? The relationship to this thread is that higher-density planes will encourage greater boarding chaos.

My suspicion is that elites flying on Y only travel policies will quickly come to hate this aircraft on routes like SFO-ORD b/c there will be zero upgrades and E+ will fill well before T-24.

The E+ seat count is probably 108 (10 rows behind BF plus one row at door 3 if you believe the dash line between rows 26 and 27 on this site http://www.briansumers.com/home/2016...seats-on-a-new .

How many 739s fly 10-14 hour legs non-stop? It's one thing to put up with a 17" seat for 5-6 hours, but for double the time? Really? I've done it once on AF, and I will never do it again if I can help it. So that means that once these seats roll out, I'm booking away from UA 777 (and 787) unless I can secure an upgrade at purchase.

People complaining about E+ and upgrades? It will be no different than riding on a 739 as far as E+. As far as upgrades, do Golds or Silvers get upgraded on ORD-SFO as it is today? I doubt it.
The positives are that First will be a better seat. As someone who pays for first for anything blocked over 4 hours, I will gladly choose the 777 on this route everytime. And I'm sure I'm not alone. Silvers are not getting good E+ seats as it is on the 739's or Airbus flying that route. They actually may have a better chance of it.

I agree, I hate the fact that the new deliveries are going 3-4-3. For international its a huge problem. But really, we have no choice. Everyone is doing it, the 787 is awful in Economy too. The only aircraft I want to fly international in Y is the 767. Being based in ORD, I'm lucky enough that I can still fly the 767 to LHR and other European cities.
For domestic operation, if this gives me less of a chance of flying the dreaded 739, I will take this evey chance i get.
I agree with you, 5-6 hours is fine anything over will not be and ORD-HNL will be worse now in Y.
