There are two versions of this configuration. They have the same number of seats in each cabin, however the rear lavatory configuration is different.
United's website now refers to these configurations as Version 3 and Version 4.
Version 3: United Domestic 777 "High Density" Configuration ("Version 3")
Version 4: United Domestic 777 "High Density" Configuration ("Version 4")

My experience in longhaul E+ is that about 50% of the time, I have an empty middle next to me (with some strategic advance seat selection). I am definitely wary about reducing the size of the cabin and ending up in regular Y on a late booking, which is not uncommon on DL or AA with smaller cabin footprints.
These days it seems like no matter which way I turn, UA is driving me to the competiton.

The irony of all this is that despite comments to Wall Street about capacity discipline, they are planning on adding a lot of capacity domestically:
- The 777's and 757's to domestic routes
- increasing the capacity on the 777's to 3-4-3
- Removing the 50 seat RJ's and putting in 75 seat RJ's and / or 320's 737
- Other than the 757 domestic planes and the 767 ghetto birds, I dont see them retiring any aircraft (and even these jets dont appear to be going anywhere anytime soon), ERJ's aside.
All this and I am willing to bet they will try to maintain frequency. My guess is that they are adding 10% capacity to the fleet over the next 3 years - 3% growth in ASM's per year.

United's consolidated system capacity growth is small, but the interesting thing to note is that mainline growth is actually strong, about 4-6% this year. Most of this is offset by a regional capacity cut, driven by 50-seat retirement and the shift of more operations from UAX to mainline. This is generally a good things for travelers, as more mainline moves into former UAX markets and 76-seater deliveries increase.

I'll do just fine TATL on AAs 777s with MCE 9 across, DL on their 767 and A330s, BA on their 777s with 9 across, or KLM on their A330s, or SAS on their A330s, or OS on their 767.

However, despite NH having 2-4-3 config on most of their 77W, some of their 77W are also 3-4-3, and all their domestic 772 and 773 are 3-4-3 as well.
Barcaloungers introduced when PMUA made the F suite (the one that use cassette tapes for movies), so it wasn't that old.

You obviously haven't flown PMUA for that long, if there was barcaloungers that recline that far back in 1998 when I first flew UA, I would be in heaven.

I understand the plan is to ultimately get the XA birds into the new domestic configuration (former XD), which will have lieflat seats up front. The final 777 fleet composition would be 19 two-cabin A-market 772 for high-density domestic/Hawaii/Euro/SA markets, 22 two-cabin sCO 772ER, 33 3-cabin sUA 772ER and 10 two-cabin 773ER.
UAL from 1997-2001 had quite the fleet.

apparently the new 773ER will have the new business class seats.
