I second that. I have bought $8K ticket on BR and $3K ticket on LH for this year travel. I am starting to collect miles on OZ and hope I would be *G soon. Just cashed out 150,000 miles for Asia business class reward and UA got my $300 ticket to MSY. I don't care how UA changes its earning structure now because I am not collecting UA's miles anymore.

It seems that the new MP program is designed exactly for big spenders like you. Why would you flee? [I know, there are many reasons for leaving UA, but I don't see why leave MP on high-$ tickets]

UA changed its earning chart for NH metal
https://www.united.com/CMS/en-US/mar...spx?ItemId=299
No notice from UA as usual and it is a change we probably don't like.
Now I don't know where to put my NH metal miles. Just booked ORD-NRT-CGK two days ago in L class for late March.
NH's own earning also kind of sucks, and fees for redemption seem to be quite high from what I have learned.
Any suggestions?

As this concerns earning on UA's Mileage Plus program, I am moving this to the United forum.

also there seems to be no clarity as to how the premier bonus is applied to RDMs at percentage - or am i wrong?
if i'm on an OS K and thus getting 50%, how is my 75% plat bonus applied - am i getting in the end 50% + (75% of that 50%)?

It Was a widespread assumption that partner earnings were going to change post 3/1 so it isn't a shock. It's being discussed http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...-1-2015-a.html

Especially the el-cheapo fare classes on partner airlines wont earn 100% of miles anymore.
LH earning charts have been enhanced, as well.

Its not all bad.
If you booked a LH transatlantic flight in K-class and its on 016 ticket stock, you at least earn some miles now.
Before March 1, you get nothing.

Award miles earnings have been gutted as expected and no surprise. The PQM earnings are a hair better (a few low classes in the LH group earn now some PQMs) but compared to the Delta new chart, it is not that great. For Delta, all revenue classes earn 100% premier miles on flights with group 1 airlines. For United, the infamous LH K-class still earns 0% PQMs. Well, United's copying of Delta is apparently selective.

got it wrong; but K-class on LX now earns some PQM.
Well, you will earn PQM in LH K-Class if the LH flight is plated on a United ticket.
If it is on a non-UA ticket, then you get nothing.

Summarizing, K-class LH segment:
016 ticket: some award miles (based on dollars per segment), no PQMs
no 016 ticket: no award, no PQMs.

Wait a minute. Under the new rules, that $8K ticket on 016 would earn you 75000 RDM. The $3K ticket 33000. Are you getting these kinds of RDM returns on OZ?

I agree that there are some pleasant surprises in that the lowest classes for some partners now earn miles (not a lot, but at least 25% or 50%) where before they didn't earn anything. So it may not be 100% like several years ago but one black eye is better than two, no? A little give back in an otherwise bleak FFP environment.

A base is a base, until it's United base I guess.

Take ORD-VIE as an example, flying OS in K class on non-UA stock. In parentheses is the dollar amount (for this segment only) at which it becomes advantageous to book a 016 ticket as it would actually net more miles.
Distance: 4714mi
1K RDM: 4714mi ($428)
Plat RDM: 4125mi ($458)
Gold RDM: 3536mi ($442)
Silver RDM: 2946mi ($421)
GM RDM: 2357mi ($471)
PQM: 2357mi
PQS: 0
Also interesting to note on LX, L and K do earn RDM but not PQM, unlike the example here on OS.
