Least valuable use of a GPU?

Had some upgrade instruments expiring, including an extra GPU....

Used it to upgrade a friend's ORD-MSP CRJ-170 flight on Friday.

Better than expiration, but having a tough time coming up with a worse use of a GPU than a 300 mile hop on a RJ.

Worst use is letting it expire.

But I once used one BOS-EWR which is shorter.

Worst are probably
(*) an upgrade that is gonna clear anyway, e.g. SFO-LAX on a sUA 757 for a 1K on an H fare on an empty weekday.
(*) an upgrade that is not gonna clear but will lock up your GPU for months, e.g. the time we applied a GPU on a W fare ORD-LHR while the cabin was booked 0/26 and gradually watched it fill up over the course of months while our upgrade never cleared

Agree with these.

Recently I burned 2 expiring ones (gifted by another FT'er in the CC giveaway thread) for DEN-GRR CR7 this Friday. Waitlisted on SMF-DEN

My wife is on a separate PNR so there was no other way to get her upgraded even though I may likely have cleared both flights by CPU on my own.

Perfect example. Short, domestic flight on a high fare class that is only a few $ away from P/Z/A anyway. I can't think of a worse scenario.
