United.com problems with IE browser

Just started encountering a problem with United.com -- well, I've had LOTS of problems with United.com, but this is a new one. I am 3.5MM 1K, so I have bought lots of tickets online via United.com for years. Starting sometime around the beginning of 2015, though, I cannot buy tickets on united.com when using the IE browser, which is my default browser. I can go through and select flights and seats but then when I try to pay for the ticket, I get warnings. First, the message is "username and e-mail address sign-on are currently unavailable." Yet my MP number and PIN show. Tried signing out and then back in. No success. Called web support and talked with a Martian who told me I should just call the "800" number or use Chrome. WHAT???? After 30 minutes of frustration I used Chrome and had to enter additional info that is saved under my IE. Wrote to 1KVoice and the response was to call the "800" 1K line. The nice agent was mystified, saying that she wasn't a techy. wrote back and the response was --"we see that you have booked flights recently so the problem is obviously fixed." HuHHH?? I booked tickets via Chrome browser and phone agent. Wrote back and now, three days later, no response.

So I guess United doesn't care if United.com doesn't work with IE?

Unfortunately, it isn't working for you...but I think this is somewhat personal since I (and I imagine thousands of others) have bought tickets within the last couple of days with IE (11) with no issues.

Have you tried the usual deleting of cache and cookies? Have you added any plug-ins to IE (maybe at about the time your problems started)?

If united.com didn't work for anyone, this would be a high priority to fix.

That message seems to be there in red for all of us. Were you signed in when you did your flight search? Many of us were locked out at varying times over the last month, apparently due to someone getting access to M+ members login info. We had to call in and have UA change our pin and other security info. Maybe your PIN was de-activated, or are you able to login via other browsers with that PIN? That call only took me 10 mins, but other have reported it being much longer for them.

See this thread.

Some sites I need access to for work are only optimized for IE (obviously not in tech industry) and by the time I remember (when using other browsers) I have already spent time trying to log in only to find I cannot. So I stick with IE.

I've been having the same issues with IE, which I use it on my work laptop for a variety of reasons. I've just been booking tickets on my tablet, so no big deal, but still a little annoying. I think it has something to do with signing me out of my account (seems like I can only stay signed in for a minute or so with IE).

I hate Chrome. It does things to computers. One of which is a huge show stopper for me. If I use Chrome, it turns of my ability to use an FTP site like a windows explorer window with folders etc. and it take a registry fix to fix the problem. Having that ability is crucial to my work. I will use Mozilla Firefox if IE doesn't work. But Chrome does too many things to take over your computer for me. This is on my work computer. For my home computer (a Mac) I use Safari and it does not have many problems. I have no problems with UA with IE, Firefox or Safari.

I have had the same problem with IE and united.com for over a year. I can do everything until it comes time to confirm my ticket purchase.

I used to be able to purchase tickets on UA using IE. Now, I can't.

I even called UA and the UA computer tech support (a year ago anyway). They had no idea what the problem was. They could not (or would not) help me see if I might have set something wrong.

Chrome will not completely download either.

I can purchase tickets using Firefox or Orbitz on any platform.

If someone has an answer.....

I use IE at work for the same reasons. Some of the software the company uses only works on IE. But at home it's Chrome.

Well, for a different perspective, I was trying to figure out when (if?) my 1K renewal materials were shipping, and went to mystatus.united.com.

Would not work on Chrome. Still doesn't.

Works on IE 9, though (my firm requires it - long story).

May I suggest that we put the browser wars aside and unite behind the one thing that we can all agree on? .bomb sucks!!!

Maybe it's part of the $2bn in cuts. A design agency I used to work for started charging double for IE support, perhaps UA decided not to pay the surcharge to their agency.

You just gave it. Use Firefox as your default browser. It doesn't hurt (honest!), it's more secure and less buggy than IE, and it doesn't mess up your computer like Chrome does.

The only thing I use Chrome for is Citrix communications to a remote server.

aarrggh links look wonky and won't resolve using Firefox/Safari even...

Just want to check for change of flight/pricing/seats for an upcoming and get this weird screen. Is this my issue or UA? Wish I could post a screen shot.
