Yea, I'm sure second year CS students will jump all over those requirements to get a certified product out.

Recent SYD-SFO showed us routing through Dakar. As if the flight is not long enough already!

United in flight maps intentionally inaccurate?

Currently on UA 679 to ROC - have noticed that the flight map isn't really close to reality - does UA edit/filter the maps for a reason? The map currently shows us over Lake Ontario - but we are WAY south of that...

Only posted this because this isn't the first time I've seen this type of inaccuracy....

I once noticed that my map was different than the map shown on my seatmate's screen. The aircraft position was the same, but the tracks were totally different. Mine was like a smooth "great circle map" track from the original to the current position, while my seatmate's track showed all the twists and turns.

Sorry - missed this thread but still don't understand why plane shown on map is so far off from reality - is it a NY thing?

Or when you wake up as you're getting ready to land look at the map and see it shows you off the coast of Africa instead of TXL and wonder if you should relax or ask if while you were asleep someone decided we were going elsewhere.

The thing that throws me off more often is when I wake up and look at the time left is still high and realize I need to refresh the screen.

LOL so true.... I have noticed that the accuracy of the map is directly correlated to the quality of wine on board - except for tonight when I was unfortunately stone cold sober after too much Manchu Wok chicken in chicago... Something isn't right with the flight maps - that I know for sure....

The "sawtooth" patterns (notably on the first batch of reconfigured 76Es, among others) are fun. I recall a flight back from EU that must have covered 7000 miles due to the zigzagging flight path, as represented by the Airshow .

Same with me on my flight today. Identical map settings, different tracks.

A bit OT, but I was on a WAW-ORD flight in LOT where the plane must have also come from ORD and they forgot to reset the system. The entire flight the remaining flight time got longer the further we got from WAW as the system calculated to distance TO WAW.
