Oldest Original UA Flight Number ?

Does anyone know what the oldest still-active flight number is on UA, that's still flying the original route ? I know that AA 1 has been JFK-LAX since at least the early 60s, but believe UA #1 used to be ORD-HNL . . .

Just curious; thanks.

I don't believe there's any UA flight numbers flying their original routes anymore. Some went to other routes, others were just dropped altogether.

How about flights from North America to Asia vv. HKG-SFO for example, it has been UA 862 for a long time.

UA 1/2 used to be the RTW flight in the 90s (and perhaps earlier).

UA 808/807 was between ICN-SFO in 1990s (and early 2000s if I remember correctly). Now it is UA 893/892.

Now UA 808/807 is beween PEK and IAD.

Change of flight #'s on United flights to Pacific
According to United's latest online timetable, the following flight numbers will change as of January 7th, 2004.

UA805 IAD-SFO-HKG-SIN change to UA869
UA806 SIN-HKG-SFO-IAD change to UA862*
UA807 EWR-SFO-ICN change to UA893
UA808 ICN-SFO-EWR change to UA892
UA809 ORD-SFO-KIX change to UA885
UA810 KIX-SFO-ORD change to UA886
UA815 JFK-LAX-SYD-MEL change to UA839
UA816 MEL-SYD-LAX-JFK change to UA840
UA826 NRT-HNL change to UA880
UA827 HNL-NRT change to UA879

Other Pacific flights remain unchanged.

Anyone know the reason for the shifting of numbers? For the most part, these have been established for many years already.

*UA862/863 SYD-SFO-ORD/v.v. remain unchanged according to the schedule. Two UA862's??? Must be a mistake in there somewhere.

You have to go back to the Pan Am days -- where 005 became 805 after UA acquired the routes from PA in 84. 005 was the SFO-HKG-SIN flight -- If you want a pure UA flight 882 might be the oldest continuous ORD-NRT.

And UA801/802 used to be PA 01/02

ICN did not open until 2001...

No mistake, UA862 for the other direction is UA869 IAD-SFO-HKG.

UA 863 for the other direction is UA 870 SFO-SYD.

UA912 LAX-JFK redeye has actually been one of the few flights that has retained it's flight number, if I'm recalling correctly. I vividly remember flying 912 several times in PMUA days, and it's held post merger through today. Nearly every other p.s. flight has changed flight numbers several times.

Hasn't the late flight from IAD to FRA been UA932 for quite a while?

The early ORD-FRA has been 944/945 since 2003 and probably 1999 or earlier.

No it is not.

UA 801 doesn't pair with 802, and it sure isn't used to be PA 1/2, as they are entirely different routings !

It is UA 800/801 JFK-NRT-HKG ! UA 800/801 translate directly from PA 800/801, PA has the exact same routing using 747SP ! As at the time only SP has the range to fly JFK-NRT nonstop ! Later on this route can be accomplish by 747-200B with NW as NW 17/18.

PA 1/2 was LAX-NRT-HKG-BKK, even though I had never flown on PA (those days I was a NW guy), but whenever I transit thru NRT, I would see both PA 1 and PA 801 both headed to HKG !

And if you remembered, after UA discontinued RTW, UA 1/2 actually goes LAX-HKG-BKK instead of LAX-HKG-DEL.
