Retro CO jet?
Just flew in it EWR to CLE on Friday. (At least I think that was the route....might've been EWR to BOS on Wed.)

I got to fly in the retro CO in March from CZM to IAH. The best part was listening to the clueless people speculate on the plane's age and airworthiness.
I wish the airlines would sometime manage to get a bunch of retro planes together...US has the America West, Piedmont, PSA, and Allegheny ones and current UA has the retro UA and CO ones. Parker has said that the new AA will keep the retro US ones and have a TWA and throwback AA (and AA has had a retrojet before, as has DL before and another has appeared this spring--maybe they can do a NW bowling shoe livery sometime too). I would love to see all of them together at the same airport sometime....maybe the airlines would fret though. Might make people remember the good old days! |

Wish they'd get rid of it. They get the entire fleet in CO colors and one that still says "Continental" all over it, while painting over every Tulip. And this "United Airlines"???? All Jeff'd Up.

New 'Continental' Metal on 739 ??
This past Wed, I flew UA 1049 from CUN to EWR- upgraded to F. Flight was ok, DTV on board with working WiFi. Nothing really unusual, except for the fact that the signage on the plane showed Continental, but not the recent 'blue world globe on white' CO, but a thin striped red and blue with a very different logo. I was going to take a picture, but unfortunately going through to customs, photos are not allowed. The inside of the plane didn't seem very different (a bit old, but then again I assumed it was legacy UA metal). Any ideas??

This is the retro liveried Continental jet.

There's 2 retro liveries. A CO 739ER tail #436 and a UA A320 tail #4275. The CO 737 is painted in the Continental blue skyways livery, while the UA A320 is painted in the stars & bars livery. There's a thread somewhere on them.

This one?
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_kC5MT2r5U8...ro+737-900.jpg Just a special retro paint job. Same plane as any other 737. And it is sCO, as UA got rid of all it's 737s before the merger. There is an Airbus painted in similar retro United paint. |

The 739s are all pretty young. They started entering the fleet in 2008 but if yours had DirecTV then it should be younger than that. The TV system wasn't FAA certified yet when the initial 739s were delivered and I'm not sure if those early ones have ever been retrofitted.

Yup! That was it.

And here is a link to pictures of the retro UA livery A320

Plane with Continental markings at EWR today
As I passed Terminal C on the monorail today I saw a plane at a gate (no jetway in place) with Continental markings (not a style I remember-retro?). Anyone have additional info?
